In sixth grade, Kurtis was dared by a classmate to talk to me. He says he was nervous and decided not to talk to me. According to Kurtis, it has been love ever since. When he finally tried to get to know me better, I wasn't interested. I was too focused on my girl friends and had no time for boys (LOL). But, from about 2009-2013, we had our eyes on each other. It wasn't until early high school that I decided to pursue Kurtis. I couldn't resist! Finally, on October 19, 2013, Kurtis carved "Be mine?" in a pumpkin for me. We have been inseparable ever since.
We were visiting Chicago with our best friends to celebrate anniversaries and friendship. We spent the weekend doing all of my favorite things, which I thought was fishy, since we were a group of six. Why was I calling all the shots? And why was everyone letting me? I found out later, it is because everyone was in on the surprise and they wanted to make the weekend special for us. We had just sat down to dinner at one of our favorite rooftop restaurants downtown. I stood up to look at the sunset over the buildings when Kurtis got up to join me. We talked a little about how blessed we are when Kurtis got down on one knee in front of our friends and the whole restaurant, and asked me to marry him. He knew a grand gesture like that would guarantee a yes from me. The whole evening was truly a dream.
