Love and Marriage

Golden Gate Park - August 1st, 2020

Even a global pandemic couldn't stop our true love for one another. We followed our hearts and officially tied the knot on Saturday, August 1st, 2020, alongside our favorite lake in Golden Gate Park. Those in attendance included Jason’s immediate family, Scout the ring bearer, and our dear friends Katie and Owen (also our enthusiastic officiant). Everyone was masked and socially distanced of course. Molly’s immediate family joined us virtually from Wisconsin, thanks to a jerry-rigged iPhone-duct-tape-tripod contraption put together by Katie. While it wasn’t the dream wedding we had envisioned, it was still everything and more that a pandemic wedding would allow. While this past year allowed the two of us to spend plenty of quality time together, it has also kept us apart from our family and friends who mean so much to us. Which is why it is with a heavy heart, and much disappointment, that we must inform you that our postponed wedding, which had been planned for August 7th, 2021, has been canceled due to COVID-related venue restrictions. We were so looking forward to seeing all of your beautiful faces - smiling, laughing, sharing a warm embrace, reminiscing on the good ol’ days, dancing, and singing the night away. While coronavirus may have canceled our big wedding day, it could never cancel the love we both share for one another and every one of you - our friends and family who have touched our lives in so many special and unforgettable ways. From the bottom of our hearts, we want to thank you for your understanding during these unfortunate times. We look forward to the day we can be in your presence again, this time as Mr. and Mrs. Phillips. Much Love, Molly and Jason P.S. Be sure to check out our wedding video! In the Beginning...

San Francsico, CA

It's probably no surprise to most, that our lives first became forever intertwined out of our shared passion for soccer and hoppy craft beers. As luck would have it, we joined the same recreational co-ed soccer team in the City by the Bay. Jay with his fancy footwork and Molly with her black and yellow "bumble-bee" socks, we made quite the dynamic duo out on the pitch. Hey, we even won a couple of league championships! Win, lose, or tie, we always bonded over pizza and ice-cold IPAs on game nights. Together with our good friend, Darien, we formed the infamous Team 1985. The Team frequently hung out on weekends too, and once took a road trip to visit some of Jay's extended family down in Santa Cruz. Molly laughed at Jay's silly jokes and Jay teased Molly for her Midwest accent (Oh youuu betcha). Eventually our friendship grew into something more, and in 2014, Team MJ (Molly and Jay) was born. To start, we hit the road almost every chance we got...trips to Fort Bragg, Santa Cruz, Joshua Tree, and Big Sur. We camped everywhere we went, visited new beaches, searched for treasures, and still managed to play soccer on Monday nights. We toured all the neighborhoods that SF had to offer, we went on runs through Golden Gate Park, Lands End, and Embarcadero. We watched the Giants win the 2014 World Series together. Molly became a die-hard Giants fan (mostly she just loved Angel Pagan). Jay taught Molly how to play catch and throw a baseball. Molly showed Jay her two greatest loves...dogs and the Green Bay Packers. We moved into our first apartment together, created a backyard garden for ourselves to enjoy, and since then we've pretty much never looked back. Life together has been an adventure to say the least, we've been to Alaska, Hawaii, Chico, Visalia, Santa Cruz, Wisconsin (of course), and snuggled up in Iceland in search of the Northern Lights. Like Forrest Gump says, "we was like peas and carrots" and on May 4th, 2019 Jay asked Molly to marry him. Not bad, eh?!

The Proposal

May 4th, 2019

We had been debating what to do for Jay's birthday all week, should we stay in town or go for a little road trip down the coast to Santa Cruz? Jay kept insisting that he didn't want to do anything big for his birthday this year, so we invited Jay's best buddy, Todd, to come visit for the weekend. Since Todd was in town, Molly wanted to go for a little hike in the city on Saturday morning, to show Todd a new part of town. Molly decided that Mount Davidson would be perfect; get a little hike in, as well as see some great views of the city. It was funny because Jay mentioned a few other spots around town to check out but Molly was adamant about Mount Davidson. Lucky for Jay, he had the whole proposal already set up for Mount Davidson! We hiked to the top with Scout in tow, and in the distance, Molly could see some white stuff on the ground, then a guitar, and even some yellow flowers. Molly literally stopped in her tracks and looked at Jay, saying "what is that? what is this?", over and over again. He almost had to drag her along, saying "well, let's go check it out, babe!". There was a trail of white quartz rocks leading to a bench adorned with sunflowers (Molly's favorite!) and his acoustic guitar placed perfectly amongst the flowers. Jay sat Molly down, played a sweet and funny song, "I Wanna Grow Old With You", as he changed some of the lyrics to mimic their life together. He then got down on one knee, said he loved her ever since he met her out on the pitch, and asked Molly to marry him. She said, "ABSOLUTELY" and almost like clockwork, family and friends jumped out from the bushes to surprise them (well, mostly Molly) with champagne and cupcakes! The sun was shining, the bees were buzzing, and even a hummingbird flew by to enjoy the morning with everyone. Jay planned it perfectly because that day, May 4th, was also his 34th birthday and said that Molly gave him the best birthday present he could have ever asked for.
