How We Met

Chapter 1: Bellarmine By Cameron

We both decided to attend Bellarmine University in Louisville, KY for undergraduate. Cameron wanted to stay closer to home and felt the smaller size would help his shy disposition. Molly felt at home as soon as she stepped on campus for a tour. Both were assigned to Petrik Hall, 3rd Floor as their dormitory. Molly quickly flourished, becoming a representative for the floor, and was known and well-loved by the whole building. Cameron was the shy, but studious hermit who slowly made his name know to the floor and building (we mean that literally, people didn't know his name). In January, a glorious stroke of luck occurred. Our strict, difficult Chemistry Lab coordinator Ms. Hahn paired us as lab partners. In addition, our "Death and the Corpse" professor Dr. Tudor intentionally partnered us up thinking we would make a cute couple! Little did we know where all that time together would lead.

Our First Date

Chapter 2: Cam learns to Skate By Molly

In February on a walk back to the dorm from dinner Cam asked Molly if she wanted to go ice skating with their friends Tyler and Ari (they were a couple). Molly said yes, however had not exactly picked up on the fact that Cameron was asking her on a date. (Molly may or may not still be made fun of to this day) The next day they left for dinner before skating and Molly realized it was a date when Cameron bought her dinner. After dinner we arrived at the rink where Molly learned that Cameron had never been skating before. He liked to try and kill himself by falling backwards. But Cam found it was a good excuse to hold Molly's hand.

Team Molly and Cam is Born

Chapter 3: Sophomore-Senior Year by "The Team"

Molly and Cameron found they were a dynamic duo far beyond what they thought possible. Whether it was biology lab, chemistry lab, extracurriculars, res-life, or making friends, more was accomplished when they worked together. Molly pushed Cameron to put himself out there socially and Cameron helped Molly become the chemistry master she needed to be. MCAT? Destroyed. Admission to Medical School? Check! Team Molly and Cam! Get stuff done!

Medical School Achievement Progress (62% complete)

Chapter 4: Medical School, year 1, 2, and part of 3rd by Cameron

We arrived in Lexington for Medical School in July, 2017 and we were nervous. We wanted to do well and show we could do the work, and we were worried about making friends. We unfortunately couldn’t bring all our amazing friends from high school and undergrad with us. However we needn't have been nervous! Somehow, we assembled the best group of friends we could have asked for at UKCOM. We are truly lucky to have such caring and funny friends. We made it through the preclinical years in 1st and 2nd year, and rotations in third year. Unfortunately, our 3rd year was put in pause due to the still ongoing pandemic.......

Chapter 5: The Proposal...oh yeah......and also COVID-19 Quarantine

Our 3rd year rotations were put on hold, and quarantine brought us to northern kentucky. Though the changing world, and seemingly continuous bad news were difficult to deal with, there were positives. We spent day after day together, enjoying each other's company like we hadn't been able to before. Our beloved grandfather, Alex Freihofer, had recently entered home hospice, and this was an opportunity to spend at least part of every day with him. We would talk with him, hug him at every opportunity, and bake him some of his recipes. He passed away in April and he is still missed by everyone who knew him. In his last few weeks, he began calling Cameron Molly's "husband." This would prove to be foreshadowing to the plans which would brew underneath mollys nose. In June, Cameron recruited Kiersten Proctor, the Matron of Honor, to help pick the engagement ring. He then also recruited Frankie and Ellie to fool molly into a pokewalk by St. Wahlburgs monastery and Villa Madonna Academy on the Ohio River. Ellie and Frankie hid underneath a bush quickly and Molly and Cameron walked close to an overlook over the Ohio River valley. Cameron asked Molly to marry him. She, stunned, said yes, and the rest is history ladies and gents.

Engagement

Chapter 6: The beginning of the period right before the start of the rest of our lives

We started in our 4th year, and began to plan for couples matching. Basically its a complicated version of the residency matching process which is already complicated. Sooooooo we had a great time. We had virtual interviews with a variety of programs and found some we loved, and some which we hope others love. We settled on UK as our first choice for a few reasons, and were lucky enough to match in Lexington at UK together! We then graduated with our MDs, and closed on a house! It was a whirlwind time in our lives, and it still feels a little windy if we're honest. We are now in residency, working as doctors in Pediatrics (Molly) and Internal Medicine (Cameron). We are loving it so far, and can't wait to see all the wonderful family and friends who we have been blessed with in our lives. We hope you all can make it and hope everyone stays safe out there! Get your vaccines please!
