Dear family and loved ones, We have sadly accepted the somber reality that this merciless pandemic will twice ruin our wedding plans in Spain. Thwarted, but not defeated, we explored every option to try and salvage this celebration, but alas with ever-changing regulations and ongoing travel restrictions, we just don't see a way to confidently plan or safely celebrate as we had imagined. We will spare you the reasoning...we know you get it. They say love is patient, but we are not. So, on a celebratory note, we are excited to share that we did officially tie the knot in a private ceremony in Gibraltar! Despite daunting obstacles, we are thrilled to finally be moving forward with our lives together. Gibraltar is a hilarious story that we can't wait to share with each of you personally and eventually celebrate together in a brighter future that allows for it. For now, we have uploaded a few pictures to our wedding website. We want to thank you all for your love, support and patience. We know everyone was looking forward to the wedding as much as we were, and we are so sorry. What a bummer. Love, Molly & Callum P.S. If you have any trouble cancelling with the Monastery, please don’t hesitate to reach out to us and we will do our utmost to help. They have been very understanding and there shouldn’t be any problems.
A modern romance... In the small town of Valladolid, a mutual friend invited me over to Callum's apartment for the "I'm new to town and need friends" BBQ he was throwing. Reluctant to go, as I was on day 4 of not washing my hair after a Keratin treatment, I went anyway dawning my best athletic gear because I was promised there would be sports followed by red meat at this shindig. A miscommunication about the sports part led me to be the only one in Umbros at this affair, but nevertheless, this handsome new friend knew how to work a grill and already knew the way to my heart... Callum, dawning his best striped SSBD (short-sleeve-button-down) looking like a middle school science teacher, and I hit it off immediately, bonding over our fashion, of course, and mutual interests in wine, food, travel, sports, Queer Eye, love of adventure and, of course, King Curtis and his bacon (Google: "bacon wife swap" if you're not familiar with this legend). After the BBQ, Callum asked me out in his most British way with lots of "if you don't mind" and "please and thank you." Our first "date" turned into a 4-day weekend, not wanting to leave each other's sides and feeling like we'd known each other forever. Even though I obviously played it cool, I knew then that this would be for forever. Of all the places in this world for two expats to meet, Valladolid has such a special place in our heart and we can't wait to celebrate our wedding here with all of our favorite people. Hope you can make it! Molly
It has been said we Brits love to talk about the weather. Molly asked me to write a short description of how we met and the weather analogies came rolling out. I guess sometimes the stereotypes aren’t that far off the mark. Imagine yourself going for a paddle in the sea and getting caught in a rip current. That’s kind of how this relationship started. One minute we are at a bbq on my terrace, Molly is stroking my leg with her foot. Naturally I thought she had a twitch, or that she thought my leg was the table leg, but I thought I’d chance my arm nonetheless and ask her out. The next thing I know we’re kissing each other goodbye at 9pm on a bank holiday Monday at the end of a 4 day long first date. Things went from there. Molly came into my life like a tornado and turned it upside down. Within 6 months we basically lived together. At 8 months we officially did. At some point I realised that she made everything in my life better, including me. And then that I loved it. And later that I loved her. Almost a year and a half after we met, I was down on one knee. Molly has since confessed that she knew all of this was going to happen right from the very beginning and that I was just slow on the uptake. She’s like that. A force of nature, that knows what she wants and goes and gets it. I consider myself extremely lucky that this incredible woman chose me. I don’t know what the odds were of an American and a Brit meeting in the middle of deep dark Spain and falling in love, but it’s probably similar to being struck by lightening. So with that being said, I truly hope that all of you reading this will be able to join us in sunny Spain next summer to help us celebrate our exciting and improbable union.
