Nicholas or “Nick” is my middle younger brother. Growing up, we were in Boy Scouts, sports, and band together. He and I have hiked several hundred miles over the years. Give him a photo of a bird and see if he can identify it, or ask him for his favorite Vegan recipes!
Maddie Payne

My life was dramatically changed for the better when Maddie moved to the island in 2002. If I didn’t return her calls quick enough, she’d call again and read entire books on the answering machine, she’s given me every nickname I’ve ever had, and to this day takes my side even when she thinks I’m wrong. There’s no one in the world more simultaneously lethal and loving. Ask her about her longstanding hatred of Drew Barrymore, her schemes to become an honorary Frumjoy, and my short-lived career as the Easter bunny.

Patrick or “PK” is my youngest brother. Growing up, he would always be one-upping and inspiring me and Nick with feats behind the boat and on the slopes. He also inherited our mother’s skill for teaching - most of the family can wakesurf because of him! Ask him for New Zealand wine tips.
Heather Johnson

Heather grew up across the street and is more sister than friend and is a part of all my holiday memories and traditions growing up. These days we always manage to turn a short visit into an all day affair and there’s no one I love chatting about books and TV shows with more! Ask her about her incredible green thumb, why she thinks Miracle Whip is better on sandwiches than mayo, and our upcoming trip to Scotland together.

Terry grew up down the street from us, though we didn’t become good friends until high school. We played in band and took many classes together in high school and then both studied Aerospace engineering at UT and were college roommates. If there’s a Wikipedia page, Terry has probably read it!

Emmet and I have been attached at the hip from my first conscious memory. Most of our childhoods were made up of fort building, collaborative homeschool projects, and Jurassic Park and Lord of the Rings movie nights. There’s been lots of theater productions, board games, and raising hell along the way. Ask them about their podcast, the short film OMG Zombies and why they think Boyhood is a bad movie.

Will also studied Aerospace Engineering at UT, where he and I met working on the Design Build Fly Competition. We spent hundred of late hours together at school laying up Fiberglass fuselages and then rushing to finish homework. We traveled to Morgantown, WV together a year before I met Molly and had such a good time that I was inspired to go back a year later with Chris (see below)! Talk to him about travel, photography, and raising 2 daughters!

Thankfully through all the time I was spending with Emmet, Caroline became like a little sister to me. Some of my favorite memories with Caroline involve smoothies at Robert is Here on trips to visit the Everglades, tea parties after our shifts at the Melon, and getting to assist with her stellar performances in A Tale of Blackbeard and Romeo and Juliet! Ask her all about the best spots in Austin, her crush on Danny DeVito, and why she asks for my advice but never takes it!

Sean and I met when Sean joined my team at Garmin in 2014. A year later we decided to save on rent and moved to be roommates in downtown Kansas City for 3 years, making many trips together to the gym and checking in countless beers on Untappd along the way. Joe and I got close in high school over a shared love of indie sleaze music and gossip and not much has changed in the years since. From plots to drive a borrowed Dodge Charger on a cross country road trip as teens to dreams of owning a cafe together, Joe and I always manage to make outlandish plans seem reasonable. Ask him for all his Denver recs, why he thinks Tolkien is a bad writer, and what it was like to serve me my first alcoholic beverage.

Josh and I first started playing Dodgeball together at work but didn’t really know each other until we discovered we lived a block away from each other downtown. We became buddies for Sporting KC games and traveling to wherever Scott’s Cheap Flights took us. Ask him about attending sporting events in faraway places.

Technically we’ve known each other from birth but my first memory of Chase is him refusing to share his Easter egg hunt haul with me when I was five. Eight years later I found it in my heart to forgive him and I’ve been hassling him about just about everything else ever since. Ask him about our New Orleans road trip, his gorgeous cats, and his bad taste in pizza toppings.

Chris was the first friend I had when I moved to Kansas City. We’ve attended many Royals baseball games and Kansas State football games (including a certain one in West Virginia in October 2016) in many locations since, as well as several trips to Table Rock Lake, Keystone, and many others over the years.
