It all started on a Thursday night out with friends at Royal Oak’s Ronin Sushi, in 2015. AJ was drawn to Molly’s magnetic presence – her kind spirit, beautiful smile, ray of sunshine outlook on life and he just knew he had to see her again. Molly couldn't stop talking about AJ. They exchanged numbers that same night. Two weeks later, AJ’s friend Kevin was hosting “Beer Olympics” at his lakefront cottage in Port Austin. AJ saw this as the perfect opportunity to see Molly again and invited her to be his partner. The weekend was a ton of fun – crazy costume props might have helped, they won (of course!) and Molly was introduced to AJ’s competitive side. On and off over the next few years AJ and Molly remained good friends -- running into each other in downtown Detroit, sending a check in “how have you been?” text, or finding events to attend together. With Molly traveling often for work and AJ’s work schedule being equally demanding as a CPA, they found it difficult to prioritize a committed relationship. The two eventually found their way back to each other in 2018 and AJ decided to take a break from the numbers, making Molly his #1! During that summer, Molly and AJ began hanging out more – concerts, dinners and even attending a wedding together. It wasn’t until the following March in 2019 that the two became official. AJ was driving to work on a Saturday morning, it was freezing and peak busy season, but as bummed as AJ was to be driving to work, he kept thinking about Molly and the happiness his time with her brought. With the thought of losing her if he didn’t make things “official”, in that moment he called Molly and asked her to be his girlfriend - Molly's first YES!!! Fast forward to January 2020, when AJ purchased his first home in Royal Oak. Molly lived close by in Pleasant Ridge at the time, so it was convenient to see one another. Their relationship was blooming. A few months later, the pandemic started. Both of Molly’s parents contracted COVID -19. The world was on lockdown, and no one knew much about the virus. To avoid contracting the virus, AJ offered Molly the option of staying with him. The next day Molly packed up her stuff, thinking their time in quarantine would be temporary. Since they were both working from home, they decided to find a furry friend. They found the perfect addition to their budding love story, – “Bernie” the Bernedoodle. It wasn’t but a few days into Bernie’s new adventure that he broke his leg in a freak accident. Forced to navigate a new puppy and an injury, Molly and AJ grew even closer. Watching Molly care for Bernie with the most matronly touch, while working through the next steps in her career and helping take care of their home, AJ knew he had found his life partner. And let’s be real, Molly knew long before that ;)

AJ knew he was going to propose - he wanted to ensure he had saved enough – you know, he’s always crunching those numbers. Finally, in late 2021, AJ reached out to Molly’s best friends to help keep Molly sidetracked while he planned the perfect proposal. The plan was: get Molly downtown in front of the Campus Martius Christmas Tree - a perfect backdrop for the proposal. AJ and Molly have a special relationship with both of their families and AJ knew he wanted everyone to be in on the surprise. He worked with Molly’s friends to get her downtown for a “girls’ day”. She had no idea their families and AJ would be waiting for her there as well. As Molly rounded the tree, AJ was standing there against a backdrop of their families holding “MARRY ME” letters that lit up. She was in total shock as AJ dropped to one knee and asked for her hand in marriage. With tears in her eyes and an enormous amount of love in her heart, "SHE SAID YES”! Molly had her own Hallmark movie Christmas themed love story! The newly minted fiancées and their families made their way back to Royal Oak where unbeknownst to Molly, a surprise engagement party was underway at their friend Wade's house. It was the most incredible evening celebrating the start of their forever, until the wedding, of course!
