How We Met

"You're Not Going to Find Love on Twitter"

That’s what I used to tell my girlfriends. But now here I am, years later, writing a love story, on a WEDDING website, about a man I met on Twitter. Life really has a way of making us look foolish, doesn’t it? I don’t remember the day we became Twitter friends or the details of our first interaction, but I do remember that sports reporter in Minnesota sending me tweets about Kawhi Leonard being a “fun guy” because he knew it made me laugh. I remember him sending me photos of DeShone Kizer at practice in Green Bay because he knew that would make me smile. From the very beginning, all he wanted to do was make me happy. Eventually, DMs became texts and texts became phone calls, and while there was 750 miles between us, he was becoming one of my closest friends. He had a trip to Cleveland planned in December of 2019, and with a little nudge from a mutual friend, he asked me on a date. I was wearing a winter hat that night, and I told him I was actually bald and that my hair was a wig attached to my hat, and then I said “rawr” after he kissed me goodnight. Despite all of that, Danny deleted his dating apps as soon as he got home that night. He went back to Minnesota, but we still talked every day after that date. We didn’t know if or how we would make the distance work, and we never talked about it. We just kept getting to know each other. About a month later, he was told that his contract wasn’t being renewed, and he decided to move back to Ohio. And that’s when our real life love story really began. We were dealt a fairly rough hand during the years that followed, but we learned so much about each other during this time. This is when I really fell in love with his heart, his character, his drive and his steadiness. This is when I knew I had found my very best friend. “You’re not going to find love on Twitter” But we did. And the moral of our story is that love can find you anywhere. But when it finds you, it’s up to you to recognize it, respect it and reciprocate it. What started with 140 characters or less has turned into the greatest love story I’ll ever write... and we can't wait to celebrate with you!
