How We Met

First comes driver's ed, then comes marriage...

Her side of the story... Robert and I first met (or at least knew of each other) in drivers' ed in 9th grade. We hung out after school together with our mutual friends, Alex and Nicole, but we were never more than friends. We also were in the same friend group in high school, but in high school, he had a big crush on Nicole. Nicole assured me that she just thought of Robert as a friend, so right after we graduated high school, I texted Robert letting him know that I liked him. It took him what seemed like FOREVER to respond, and the first words in the text were, “I am so flattered but…” and I was crushed. However, he came to his senses, and we both decided that we wanted to have a “summer fling” before going off to college in two different states. When the time came for us both to leave for school, we both had realized that it was much more than a summer fling, and the rest is history. His side of the story... Throughout middle school and high school, most people don’t know a majority of the people that are in their graduating class, but I always had a knack for knowing most of the names and faces of the people that I passed in the hallways every day. Naturally, I knew who Mollie Greenwood was when we officially met in drivers’ ed when we were high school freshmen. We got to know each other better throughout the duration of high school as I became apart of what I considered HER friend group in the beginning, which eventually turned into OUR friend group by the end of high school. I never saw Mollie with romantic eyes until one New Year’s Eve party at our friend, Nicole’s house, when I thought in my head, “Dayummmmm, she lookin’ cute tonight!” I never acted on it though and things didn’t really pick up until after we graduated when SHE texted ME, and we’ve been kickin’ it together ever since the summer after graduating high school.

The Proposal

Her side of the story... My family has been going to the same resort in Minnesota since I was six years old, and this was Robert’s third time coming with my family. Every year, we take family pictures by the lake since that is one of the only times throughout the year that my whole mom’s side is together. We took our family pictures by the lake, and then Robert asked me if we could take some pictures out on the dock. Once we were out on the dock, Robert took my hand and asked me to turn away from him so that we could get a cute picture. I was pretty confused with what he was asking me to do, so I knew something was up. As I turned around, I saw Robert down on one knee with the ring in his hand, and I was overjoyed to say “yes!" His side of the story... Before officially picking out the ring, I knew the exact time and place I was going to propose to Mollie. Fair Hills Resort at the end of July, where her mom’s side of the family takes a week-long vacation every summer together. I had been to Fair Hills twice before, so I knew how special and beloved that little lake resort was to the O’Herbywoods. The family always takes a collective family photo somewhere along the lake, so I knew it wouldn’t seem out of the ordinary if we were to take some photos of just the two of us on the dock. S/O to her dad, Geoff, for playing along and taking the photos for us, and the rest of the family waiting anxiously right by the dock. After finding the best hiding spot for the obnoxiously awkward ring box (in my waistband), all that was left to hear was a “yes!”
