Flight
Getting to Wānaka: After flying into Queenstown Airport, it is a 1-hour drive over the Crown Range to Wānaka. You can either catch a bus from Queenstown Airport to Wānaka (schedule here: ritchies.co.nz/queenstown/) or we would recommend renting a car, which will give you a bit more freedom to explore the area. International Guests: For those coming from abroad, aim to fly into Auckland (AKL) and connect on a short 1.5-hour flight to Queenstown (QTN). There may also be San Francisco (SFO) direct flights to Christchurch (CHC) as another option where you can either connect to Queenstown or rent a car and drive (through 5hr of scenic NZ goodness).
Travel Note
You'll need a visa before you travel. If you have a US passport - all you need is a NZETA (nzeta.immigration.govt.nz). This takes 72 hours to process, and we highly recommend getting this when you book your flights. Kate once waited until the last minute (shocker) and it was a bit stressful, so apply when you book flights and save yourself the airport panic! For all other passports - you'll need the NZETA as well and we recommend checking the New Zealand immigration website for information specific to your passport and situation. You can find a list of visa waiver countries here: www.immigration.govt.nz/new-zealand-visas/preparing-a-visa-application/your-journey-to-new-zealand/before-you-travel-to-new-zealand/visa-waiver-countries
