We actually met at a work event. Fun fact, we still work for the same company and yes, it was an office romance! We hit it off, chatting about all sorts of things. The next day, Chris messaged me over our office skype app and asked if I do professional desk decorating consultations. If you know me, you know that complimenting my decorating style is the quickest way to my heart. Was it cheesy? For sure, but was it effective? Definitely! We went out on a few dates after that and the rest is history.
Chris and I went to Hawaii in October. Publicly, it was to celebrate my birthday. Between you and me, we saw affordable tickets and the timing worked out. That's just how we work. Chris had an action-packed agenda laid out for us and the first activity on our first full day was a hike to the top of, wait for it, DIAMOND Head. We got to the top and climbed on the pillbox. We were taking in the view and someone offered to take our picture. After snapping a photo, the kind stranger handed me my phone back and when I turned to Chris, he was down on one knee. The most common question I get about this is, was I surprised? The answer is a bit funny. I actually saw the charge for the ring on a bank statement by accident. (Swear I wasn't snooping!) So I knew he had the ring, but we also had other trips coming up, so I wasn't 100% sure he'd propose in Hawaii. I was pleasantly surprised!
