The saying, "couples that work out together, stay together!" We went to the same CrossFit gym for close to a year before we actually had our first workout together, he was the morning person and I was the night owl. every once in awhile, I would join the am class and he would come for the p.m. class. Funny thing is, I started seeing him more and more in my classes after that! We shared a few personal inside jokes, some dirty, we will save that for cocktail hour, and I would always ask about his little boy Riley, who was about 3 at that time. Derek finally asked me on a date and I said yes! He had to work out of town for the next few weeks, so he made sure to keep following up to make sure we were still on and we planned on Martini's for dinner. The night before our dinner, my entire world, as I knew it was turned upside down, and I had to put my beloved dog George to sleep the day of date. Obviously, I cancelled and was more sad than I had ever been in my entire life. Derek finally pulled me out of the house 2 weeks later for our first date. We talked, I'm sure i cried, and we jogged with my foster dog Stella. We dropped her off and went for pizza at Panheads for dinner. Like I said, this was and still is, the saddest, most difficult thing I have ever gone through… I was an absolute mess… and Derek was there. He literally pulled me out of the darkness and into love in no time. We eventually had our nice dinner at Martinis as he promised, but that night at the City Center jogging would turn out to be one of the most memorable times in my life and I know we both hold that deep in both of our hearts now!!!!!! Here's to forever!!
We take an annual trip together every December. This time it was to Boston and we were pumped to take in all the city had to offer. Boston decorates the public gardens in beautiful lights each year and it is quite a magical place. I had planned to take her there in the evening after dinner and propose under the lights. After dinner she was really tired and wanted to go back to the hotel, unknowing of my plan to propose. Mind you, she had a full belly of delicious food and baby at this point in the evening. The next morning, before we went out for the day, we stopped to chat with the owner of the bed and breakfast. He then mentioned a tiny staircase leading to a sky light/door, and up to the rooftop with a great view of the city. In an impromptu fashion, I brought her up to the roof of our B&B to take in the view, ring in pocket. Just as we got up there, beautiful white powder snow started to come down and I pull the ring out of my pocket and dropped to one knee. She was completely surprised and it ended up being perfect. The owner of the B and B was still there and he was so thrilled with the timing of the snow and the in the moment proposal. He said that we were so lucky, that this was the pretty type of snow, Disney snow as he called it! We made sure to record our special day in the journal in the sitting room and promised to return again. Sometimes in life, you have to throw all your plans out the window, and live for the moment… I am glad I did that day and I'm so glad she said yes!!!!!!
