Michael & Kayla have known each other since first grade. Kayla was very shy and very awkward. Michael was the opposite. He was never afraid to tell you his opinion and was much less (but still) awkward. While they knew each other in middle school, they didn't quite cross paths until senior year of high school in Physics (Slurpee Tuesday, anyone?). Kayla's first true memory of Michael is when most of the class left for a track meet and Mr. Reeves, the principal, was subbing for the day. Michael asked Kayla if she ever talked outside of Physics class. (To this day, he'll tell you he never heard her speak until senior year, which is false.) In 2012, Kayla had just finished her freshman year at CSU and Michael his at WTAMU. They continued to hang out with friends at 4th and Main in Wray and DQ and Pizza Hut in Yuma (because if you've been to Wray, you know that's all there is to do). Kayla can be fairly oblivious to signs sometimes. When Michael first asked her on a date (to ice cream at DQ), she thought nothing of it. In fact, she brought her best friend Cindy along. Michael handled it like a champ, though. The next week, he asked her to Pizza Hut. It took a phone call from Cindy on the way to Michael's house before Kayla realized what was going on. I quote: "Kayla. You cannot be this BLONDE. HE LIKES YOU!!!!" (If you know Cindy, she speaks in all capital letters). Afterward, Kayla and Michael dated long distance for one year and went separate ways for another Another summer rolled around and God had bigger plans for the two of them. They dated for two more years before Kayla graduated and accepted a job in Hereford, TX and moved from CO to TX where Michael had one semester left in school. Two years later, Michael accepted a job in College Station, TX and Kayla followed. On December 15, 2018, Michael finally popped the question-- it only took him almost six years! They cannot wait to start their lives together as Mr. and Mrs. Holmes on October 27, 2019.
