How We Met

It was the fall of 2018 when SungWon and Michelle were placed in the exact same room for a high school mentor volunteer orientation. They didn’t speak, lock eyes, or even realize the other existed, but the universe gave them a second chance months later at a mentor happy hour. Michelle—freshly repatriated to Los Angeles from Boston—was a glowing ray of pure sunshine, effortlessly commanding the room with "main character" energy. SungWon, whose social calendar at the time was non-existent, was occupying his natural habitat: being a bit shy and actively blending into the background. Suddenly, Michelle initiated contact. After discovering he was from Seattle and of Korean descent, she beamed with enthusiasm and declared how excited she was to meet him because she hadn’t grown up with many korean friends. SungWon was thoroughly confused, slightly alarmed, but entirely fascinated by this unstoppable force of nature. Over the next few months, their friendship went from the occasional text messages to hanging out in person, and SungWon quickly realized that his days got exponentially brighter whenever she was around. Naturally, he caught heavy feelings. After three months of internal debating, he finally confessed his love, only for Michelle to politely place him in the friend zone. Refusing to accept defeat and eager to win her over, he began planning weekend dates so meticulously fun that he successfully managed to take up most of her weekend social calendar. This strategy worked. After six months of weekend dates, Michelle officially decided to give SungWon a chance and agreed to be his girlfriend. Fast forward seven years, and they are tying the knot on October 3rd, 2026. It’s safe to say SungWon’s resilience and date-planning secured him an infinite, lifetime ROI.
