We first crossed paths in the most modern way possible: a swipe right. Sean had just moved to Atlanta from Texas for a new job—he’d only been here for about two weeks. Our first date was at a spot called Barcelona, a great place for wine and tapas. Meredith thought it would be a good choice, especially since Sean was new here. It could be impressive, and hey, maybe she could be his tour guide—or at least a friend. Meredith was almost late (no surprise there) and ended up changing out of her scrubs in a parking deck, right in her car. Meanwhile, Sean arrived on time, sporting a light blue polo shirt with pink flamingos on it. Meredith thought it was an interesting choice, but it showed he had a sense of humor, which was a big plus in her book. Sean, on the other hand, noticed her energy right away. She had this way of filling the room with her presence. During the date, Meredith took on the role of the "self-proclaimed tour guide," asking Sean about the essential places one needs to find in a new city—like a gym, a golf spot, and, of course, the best taco place. She did most of the talking, but Sean didn’t mind; he was enjoying the entertainment. After that first date, Sean surprised Meredith by asking her to plan their next date on his birthday. Meredith was shocked he chose that day but took on the challenge of planning something fun and memorable. From there, things just flowed naturally. Sean kept finding reasons to hang out, and Meredith didn't seem to mind. Who would have thought that a swipe right and a date featuring a flamingo shirt would lead to this..here we are, living our own version of a happily ever after.
On December 13, 2023, we tied the knot at the courthouse. You might be wondering why we chose that particular day. Well, it was a random Wednesday, and the 13th just felt like it might be lucky for us. Plus, our first anniversary will also fall on a Friday the 13th, and we’re pretty excited about that! Deciding to elope was a gut feeling for both of us—it just felt right. A month earlier, on November 15th, we picked out matching wedding bands from Cartier and had a little celebration dinner afterward to mark the upcoming big day. Then, just two days later, on November 17th, Sean pulled off a big surprise. Knowing that Meredith was working from home, recovering from being sick, Sean planned everything perfectly. Meredith was in sweatpants, freshly spray-tanned, makeup-free—a bit of a hot mess, while Sean came home looking sharp after work. The ring arrived that day, and Meredith actually had to sign for it! She knew a ring was coming but didn’t know if Sean would propose right then or if we’d wait to exchange it on the wedding day. That evening, when Sean popped the question, Meredith was completely caught off guard. The details of November 17th are a blur now—there’s literally no documentation of that day! True to her style, Meredith scrambled last minute to find a wedding dress. She ended up with a $25 bargain dress that was missing a bead. Turns out, finding a white dress at department stores was harder than expected! She refused to go to a bridal shop, wanting to stick to the low-key theme. Sean looked dashing in his tailored suit. When we got to the courthouse, our officiant, a retired judge named Johnny, showed up in sweatpants, a white t-shirt, and Reeboks. We don’t remember a single thing we said during the ceremony, but three minutes later, we were officially married. After the “I Do’s,” we celebrated with a cake from Whole Foods—a cake we didn’t have to save, but could just buy again each year. We toasted with some champagne and packed our bags for a micro-honeymoon in Helen, GA, a charming little town with a Bavarian vibe. We exchanged vows privately that night and enjoyed a lovely dinner. In September 2024, we’re planning to go to Germany for a real honeymoon! Our love story is filled with spontaneous decisions and wonderful surprises, and we wouldn’t have it any other way.
