Bryce and MK first met over surgery, just over five years ago -she was working in the operating room late one evening and he came into the hospital to assist with a trauma surgery. The OR they worked at was a pretty close knit family and, given his obsession with fitness, Bryce became the unofficial “after work endorphine” social club coordinator for their group. They became good friends while surviving weekly Grouse Grinds, rock climbing sessions and makeshift workouts he would convince everyone were “going to be a lot of fun!” (type 2 fun as he describes it). Their passion for fitness and adventure really brought them closer over the next few months. One evening, at after work social club, MK met Bryce to go indoor rock climbing and we both realized everyone else had bailed - leaving them on what became their first unofficial impromptu date. After a great evening roughing up our hands on climbing walls and barbells, he politely asked if he could walk her to her car - which was hilariously 10 steps from the front doors of the gym, but she felt he was going somewhere with this so she obliged. Bryce asked MK out to dinner that night and they have never looked back since. They have had so many great adventures together in the last 4 years, but during this wild pandemic year they really fell in love with their new backyard in Calgary - the Rockies. When Christmas was cancelled with our families, Bryce surprised MK with a wintery weekend getaway. They were out for a morning hike around one of their favourite places, Emerald Lake, when MK walked out into a clearing to watch the sunrise pop over the mountains. She noticed her boot laces had come undone and Bryce got down on one knee to tie them up for her… and he stayed down there. It was just the two of them, their dog Oslo, on a frozen glacier lake surrounded by the Rockies when he asked her to marry him. An amazing end to a wild 2020 that we can’t wait to celebrate with the people we love!
