No. Jacob and I decided that a beach wedding was the best option for us to kickoff this chapter in our lives. We know that this means many of you will not be able to attend, and that bums us out, but we've tried to plan plenty of before and after activities to give us a chance to spend time with each of you.
Jake and I will be getting married in Mexico on October 13, 2018. Our plan is to host a celebration (aka local reception) when we get back. Depending on how you relate to us (family, through work or old friends), the time, venue and location will be communicated separately.
First, please know that we have zero expectations from anyone and it will not hurt our feelings if you can't make it. However, if you do plan to attend, please refer to the travel section of this site to get the details on the resort. We are not doing room blocks or any special accommodations, so it will be up to you to find and secure the best deal. Once you are certain that you will be attending, please let me know ASAP, so I can update the RSVP with the resort. We want to make sure that there is a place for you to sit during the ceremony and a space for you at the reception. : ) We are extremely excited about being able to start our honeymoon very soon after the wedding. If you decide to come, please use the opportunity to plan a great vacation for yourself as well. Don't make it all about us!!! We plan on "disappearing" starting October 14th, so make your trip as long or as short as you need it to be. Please feel free to contact me for any other specific questions.
1. We looked into getting a room block, but ultimately decided not to. We did not want to restrict people from finding better deals and we did not want to hold anyone to a timeline or structure. 2. We were told by more than one event planner to book directly with the resort. Reason being, if something goes wrong, it is easier to deal with the resort directly than a third-party while in another country. 3. If you find a deal on one of the travel sites, you can call the resort reservation line and ask them to match that deal. They just have to be able to find it. For example, if you find a good deal on Travelocity.com on a Monday and wait to call the reservation line until Tuesday, then they will only offer the price as it appears on Tuesday. 4. Generally speaking, as we get closer to October, you may find that the more economical rooms have already been reserved. I would encourage you to book as soon as you find a price that you can live with.
5. When you book the room, you only have to put a deposit down. The remainder is due 14days before the trip and will be charged to the card you use for the deposit. 6. The deposit is equivalent to one nights stay. 7. Typically speaking, it is best to use a credit card, rather than a debit card when booking vacations or international travel. 8. I would suggest booking via phone, rather than online. Dreams has a reservation team that can help answer questions or walk you through the pricing. 9. The reservation line is 1-866-237-3267. 10. The resort is Dreams Sands Cancun.
11. Our wedding date is Oct. 13. 12. For anyone who is only coming for the wedding, I would suggest flying in on Thursday (October 11) and fly home on Sunday (October 14). 13. Right now, rooms start at $296 (Deluxe Partial Ocean View), but again, if you find a better deal, you can call the resort directly to negotiate. 14. If you book flight and hotel together the rates seem to be reasonable, but it will all fluctuate based on the day that you book, so when you find a good deal, you’ll want to lock it in. 15. As of me typing this I found a trip for two at $1566.08 plus taxes. This particular trip leaves from Dallas on Oct. 11 through Spirit and returns on Oct. 14. The room is a Deluxe Partial Ocean View for a three night stay.
16. Today, the most economical deal for flight alone was around $296 per person from Spirit Airlines. With American, you are looking at $383, but also a more reliable airline. 17. We recommend booking a shuttle from the airport to the hotel and hotel to the airport through Amstar. The cost is $40 and it is safer than trying to coordinate a random taxi. 18. A couple of people have brought to our attention their concern for crime or violence in Mexico. We are taking these concerns very seriously and will be monitoring the situation. I am currently signed up for and receiving alerts through the U.S. State Department. They have travel advisories to help travelers. Right now, Mexico is a level two which means exercise caution. For context, Germany has the same level advisory due to recent incidents linked to terrorist. 19. Cancun is in Quintana Roo and as of this moment, U.S. government employees are not restricted from travel in that area, including Cancun, Tulum and Rivera Maya.
20. If the Travel Advisory increases to level three or beyond, Jacob and I will consider alternatives to traveling to Mexico. We don’t anticipate that it will, but we are committed to a safe experience for anyone willing to share it with us. 21. The link to the State Department -> https://travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/traveladvisories/traveladvisories/mexico-travel-advisory.html 22. That being said, while traveling, especially to a county in which you consider foreign, please always exercise caution, travel with company when possible, and ensure you are familiar with local customs and areas to avoid. 23. We are planning a small reception in DFW for people who are unable to attend the ceremony in Mexico. We are still reviewing options and will send updates once we nail down more details. The tentative date for the reception is October 20, 2018. 24. Text or email me anytime if you have any questions or need help with anything!
