In general, Indians view showing leg and shoulders as immodest, so you'll find that Indians dress to conceal the lower body and chest, but are okay showing belly. Acceptability varies depending on location, but outside your hotel room, wearing these things should be avoided. DO remove your shoes when entering someone's home or private hotel room. DO stick to drinking only bottled water. Leave your Hydro Flask at home for this one. DO carry cash. 100 & 500 rupee bills will be very useful. DO come prepared eat spicier foods than you get in the United States. DONT wander by yourself at night. DONT exhibit PDA beyond hugs & hand-holding. DONT be overly friendly with anyone of the opposite gender. (Midwesterners, I'm looking at you). DONT pack your own hairdryer. Hotels will have them, and you don't want to risk ruining yours with India's higher voltage. Most voltage converters cannot support them either.
