The Color's Ceremony is a Tradition at Roche Harbor. Every night, between mid-May (yay!) and the end of September, we lower the flags 20 minutes prior to sunset in a "Retirement of the Colors" ceremony that can be viewed and heard as the canon goes off anywhere in the harbor. The ceremony is taken very seriously by our employees and has been a tradition at Roche Harbor since the summer of 1957. It is a non-military ceremony formulated by the late Reuben J. Tarte, who turned Roche Harbor from a limestone company to the resort we know today.
Carrying on a tradition passed down for more than 125 years, Roche gardeners take loving care of the grounds throughout Roche Harbor. The centerpieces of their work are the formal sunken gardens in front of Hotel de Haro (where we are getting married!).

Whale watching participants experience a nearly 90% sighting rate on trips to the west side of the island. And even if you do not see any whales, you are sure to discover all kinds of other marine wildlife while out on the water!
