The Boat Day - Meagan's Story

July 24, 2022

Meagan's version: I met Travis while I was on a first date with someone else. Seriously. I was asked to go on a pontoon boat one Sunday with someone I had been casually talking to for a few months. While on the boat, I came to the realization that I wasn't really too interested. He was so sweet, but we didn't click. Travis was also on that boat and we ended up talking a lot and playing DJ. I liked his personality and general vibe. We learned that we both love 90's music, Broadway, dogs, and traveling. I left with a good impression of him. He left with my Instagram handle. A few weeks later I got a DM on Instagram from him, replying to something I put on my story. I was very cordial and professional about it, as it was related to a piece of jewelry I made. Looking back, I laugh at how professional and cordial I sounded. A few weeks after that, we talked on the phone for the first time. We texted each other every day. Then, I started getting bolder and bolder and would call him without any warning. I would come home from work and call him to ask about his day. It was then I realized that I actually liked him as more than a friend. For 3 months we danced around telling each-other our feelings. And, then...it happened. He said that I was cute, and I said "You should take me on a date." We had our first date in Downtown St. Pete and spent that evening holding hands, talking, joking, and just getting to know each other. 2 years later, countless one-hour drives every weekend, and a lot of binge-watching our favorite shows, I can finally say that I'm marrying my best friend, my favorite person on this planet, my biggest supporter. I'm so happy I was invited out on that boat.

The Boat Day - Travis's Story

I really didn’t know anyone besides the person who invited me out on the boat. But I did see Meagan come in and I thought, 'Hey, she’s cute!' Meagan introduced herself to me, being cordial, but the more we talked with each other the more interests we seemed to have in common. Same kind of music, even musicals like Phantom of the Opera and Les Mis. I asked her if she liked a certain show or band and her answer was “Of course, I’m a 90’s girl.” I know she didn’t catch it, but the smile that emanated from my face I couldn’t hold back. It may seem pointless or random, but for quite a while that’s something that I was looking for, a “90’s girl.” Someone who understands what I like. My brain clicked...I may have found her. So as I was playing music for everyone, they didn’t know, and she didn’t know, but every song I played was just a little test to see if she would like it as much as I did. Every cheesy joke I told was just for her to laugh. And sure enough, she did. Conversation about everything just seemed effortless with her. I did find out that evening that she was actually there on a date with someone else but, whether she felt it or not, I thought we both made an impression on each other. After a couple months of messaging little things on Instagram, she tried to invite me out with friends but I was in North Carolina at a cabin. So as soon as I got out of the mountains, I made sure she got my number. And the phone calls immediately started happening. And here we are - missing each other through the week until we can see each other on the weekends. Talking everyday about how we can make my bachelor pad home, a great cozy home for both of us to start our lives. I love her. She's my girl, and my favorite.
