Duck Creek Village is somewhere you would want to visit if you were already taking a drive up Cedar Mountain, or a route option if you are already looking to visit near Kanab or Lake Powell. Duck Creek displays some of the prettiest parts of Cedar Mountain, and its likely that visitors will see some wildlife.
Snow Canyon State Park is located a little more than an hour south of Cedar City close to St. George, Utah. The state park is full of red rock, sand, and even some caves that visitors can hike through. Be sure to bring long pants, a flashlight and extra batteries if you do choose to explore through the caves.
The Southern Utah Museum of Art, better known as SUMA is located the Southern Utah University campus and the Shakespeare Festival. The museum has a variety of art from Southern Utah residents and college students. A great place to see if visitors are on foot or want to stay within Cedar City.
Sand Hollow is a reservoir with beautiful red sand and clear blue water. Located about 45 minutes south of Cedar City, Sand hollow is a popular location for boaters. The reservoir also has red rocks that many people use for cliff diving. Kayaks, Jet skis, and other materials are available for rent.
Best Friends is a no-kill animal sanctuary that covers many acres near the town of Kanab. The sanctuary cares for thousands of animals, from dogs and cats to pigs and horses. Many of these animals have birth defects or suffered previous abuse or neglect. The staff at Best Friends are trained to aid in the recovery of these animals, and train the public through free tours what they can do to help. Vegan meal options are available.
The Coral Pink Sand Dunes are a hidden gem with in the state parks of Utah. It would be a great place to visit if one was already heading to Lake Powell, or was visiting Best Friends. The Sand Dunes are located near the town of Kanab, and are excellent for hiking and ATV trips.
Few people are aware of the 3 secluded hot springs that are located in a rural area of Utah called Meadow. The warmest spring is about the temperature of bath water, and is probably 20-25 feet deep. All of the springs have water full of minerals, and one of the springs even has small fish. If visitors sit still enough, the fish will play with their toes. The Meadow Hot Springs are located about 2 hours away from Cedar City, but are worth the visit in any weather condition. Bring goggles if you do plan to visit the springs.
Although it is a few hours away from Cedar City, the grand canyon really is worth the trip. We suggest visiting the north rim rather than the south rim, as it is easier to access. The scenery of the grand canyon cannot be beat when it comes to hiking. Visitors can spend a few hours or up to days exploring the canyon.
