How We Met

Sullivan County Corn Festival 2011

Skye and Mitchell were first introduced to each other by friends Preslee Vaught (the maid of honor) and Matthew Siner. They spent their first evening together at the Sullivan Corn Festival, an annual fall festival held on the Sullivan Square. Mitchell was shy and quiet but Skye was outgoing and she brought him out of his shell. They laughed and enjoyed the carnival rides, but enjoyed each other’s company more. It was clear there was a spark between them that evening, and the flame has been burning ever since then!

The Proposal

August 15, 2018

In August of 2018, Skye had just finished her summer externship in Indianapolis, celebrated her 21st birthday in Nashville, and then headed to Colorado for vacation with Mitchell. They started the vacation in Estes Park sight-seeing, shopping, and eating. On the 2nd night, Mitchell had set up a “really nice fancy dinner” and instructed Skye to get all dressed up. Skye wondered if something was up, but her suspicions were confirmed when Mitchell had a high-speed come apart on the drive up the mountain because it was so hot he was sweating through his shirt. They made it safe and sound nonetheless. When they arrived to the “cool spot to walk around at before dinner,” Skye threw a fit (surprise, surprise) about walking around because her fancy new heels were hurting her feet. Thank goodness she got over it because Mitchell led her to a pond where she noticed and literally said out loud, “I guess X marks the spot.” This X is where Mitchell got down on one knee and nervously babbled and finally proposed. They hugged and kissed, another couple walked by and the boyfriend yelled out “thanks a lot man, setting the bar high,” and then Mitchell pointed over to a DITCH where a man with a camera then JUMPED OUT revealing that Skye had gotten 2/2 of her proposal requests: that her nails were painted and there was a secret photographer. Never in her wildest dreams would she have thought that secret photographer would be in the mountains of beautiful Colorado.

All the Memories in Between

October 2011 - August 2018 and after

After their first night together, Mitchell and Skye realized there was something more between them than just friendship. After a few dates at football games and other high school events, Mitchell asked Skye to be his girlfriend (through a text message, yikes). Although it may not have been as glamorous as the proposal that came several years later, it was their first milestone on their journey through life. Now that they were a couple, their dates came more and more frequently. They met each others family and began to make relationships with them. They spent the holidays together and watched each other play sports in high school. Along the way, they bonded closely with each others family and began to consider each other a member of their own family. Skye especially became very close with Mitchell's late grandfather Fred, who thought she could do no wrong. Skye lost her Papaw Jack in 2011 and Fred helped to fill the void that was left with his passing. Although Mitchell never got to meet her grandfather, her family members reassured him that he would have thought very highly of Skye's young farm boy boyfriend. Next came their high school graduation, and Mitchell and Skye had both decided to pursue a college degree from Purdue University. Shortly after starting their freshman year, Mitchell decided to join Alpha Gamma Rho fraternity, an agricultural fraternity on campus. This was a life changing experience for the both of them. Through the house, Mitchell and Skye met a lot of friends with whom they made a lifetime of memories during their four years. Skye received an amazing education which turned her into such an outstanding nurse. Skye also made some amazing friends in nursing school at Purdue. Since graduating college, the couple has come back home to Sullivan County. They have two puppies, June and Ellie, who are the most amazing dogs. They have linked up with friends at home who make life so enjoyable. They are loving life together!
