Things To Do

For those that are from out of town, a few recommendations from the vast local knowledge of the Hoyt clan

Yale Peabody Museum

170 Whitney Avenue, New Haven, CT 06511

Great place to look at dinos and rocks and stuff

Frank Pepe Pizzeria Napoletana

157 Wooster Street, New Haven, CT 06511

The famed spot for "apizza." Get the white clam pie if you're feeling especially local, or get something else from here if you like food that "tastes good" like some kind of weirdo out-of-towner

Sleeping Giant State Park

200 Mount Carmel Avenue, Hamden, CT 06518

Nice quick 3-mile round trip hike

Lyman Orchards Pick Your Own

Powder Hill Road, Middlefield, CT 06455

Our pie will be from here!

Eli Whitney Museum & Workshop

915 Whitney Avenue, Hamden, CT 06517

Just trying to gin up some support for this place

Hubbard Park

999 West Main Street, Meriden, CT 06451

Good little park with a little lake and a nice hike to a castle on a hill. This is where we took our engagement photos

Yale University Art Gallery

1111 Chapel Street, New Haven, CT 06510

Arty and whatnot

Beinecke Rare Book and Manuscript Library

121 Wall Street, New Haven, CT 06511

Not as much for nerds as the vintage radio museum in Windsor is, but that's a low bar. The architecture is cool here but it is best for a visit of about 5-10 minutes. Maybe stop by if you're already walking through the Yale campus.

Louis' Lunch

261 Crown Street, New Haven, CT 06511

Supposedly the birthplace of the hamburger. Many Germans dispute this claim. Either way, they're definitely special for serving hamburgers on toast. Friendly warning: don't even think about asking for ketchup here, or asking for them to actually cook the burger beyond rare.

Yale University

149 Elm Street, New Haven, CT 06511

If you schedule ahead, you can get a guided tour of the campus. I have been told that apparently that is a fun activity for some people
