After meeting though mutual friends at BYU, Anya and Mitchell quickly became friends themselves. They bonded over their love of movies, sense of humor, and shared outlook on the world—though Mitchell couldn’t help noticing that his new “friend” was stylish and beautiful, too. A few months later, Mitchell found himself with an extra ticket to the Sundance Film Festival and thought of Anya. The movie about okapi conservation was pretty good, but the company was even better. Anya, already drawn to Mitchell’s friendly and fun-loving nature, agreed to a second date. Unfortunately, life had other plans. Before they could plan something else, a global pandemic got in the way. Soon after their first date, Anya and Mitchell were suddenly back home on opposite coasts. They gave up on a second date and moved on—or so they thought. When they returned to campus nine months later, they had a second first date, but decided to stay friends afterward. Of course, that friendship didn’t last: after a few months “staying friends” and seeing other people, Anya and Mitchell decided to give it a go once more (first date number three). This time it stuck. They dated for a year and a half in Utah, went six months long distance (audience boos) and finally got engaged (audience cheers)!
