Courtney and Mitch met in Chicago at Lollapalooza in August of 2013. They ended up in the same spot for Mumford & Sons, bumping into each other in a crowd of tens of thousands of people. Courtney turned around to see Mitch's smiling face, his accent hooked her in, and she ended up on his shoulders for part of the show. Neither expected to keep in contact, but as luck would have it, Mitch was in Michigan for a friend's wedding after Lollapalooza. When they met up again, they realized they were onto something.
Mitch had been talking about planning a trip to Banff/Lake Louise for some winter fun. Like the procrastinators Court and Mitch are, no plans were made. Courtney came home after working a nightshift, Mitch asked if she wanted to go to Canada, and when she woke up from a nap he was packing their bags. They spent the first day of the trip snowshoeing around Lake Louise. After snowshoeing for about 5 hours, the trail became too snowy to trek through and they turned around. Mitch was digging through his backpack and then got down on one knee in 3 feet of snow. Courtney, who thought he was getting snacks, was completely caught off guard and answered "Are you serious?" Fun fact: it was around 5 degrees F that day and Mitch came home with "frost nip" on his toes, which lasted a couple months. Courtney came home with a really nice ring.
