We had mutual friends since freshman year of college. It was always, "You know Rachel" or "You know Miller," but we didn't officially meet until our senior year. It was the first day of Systems, Instrumentation, and Data Acquisition in the English Philosophy Building at the University of Iowa. Systems was an awful class that I think we both wish we could forget, but will now remember forever as place we finally met.

A little backstory - for one of my birthdays, Mitch gave me a blank "Our Adventure Book" (from the movie Up) to fill in with our own adventures. I listed all 50 states with a space for a Polaroid picture, so that we could have a scrapbook with a picture from each state we visit, to go along with our scratch-off map. We flew to Alaska to visit my sister and her husband in the summer of 2021. We drove to Denali National Park one of the days, and we knew that's where we wanted to take our "Alaska Polaroid". On our hike, we stopped at Horseshoe Lake, the perfect place for our Polaroid. We were standing in front of the lake, smiling for our picture, and at the last second, Mitch said "I don't like this picture". He turned to me, got down on his knee, and asked me to marry him! It was perfect, and our "Alaska Polaroid" is now my favorite picture in our scrapbook.
