Grant and I first met on September 28, 2013. He was finishing the season in Texas playing against the Rangers. That night, Grant and a few teammates where at a bar in Southlake, TX watching USC football and I was having after dinner drinks with two girlfriends. After a lot of eye contact across the room, one of the girls called Grant and his friends to come over. We all began chatting, and he was very hesitant to say what he was in town for, but once he did he offered us tickets to the Angels vs. Rangers game the following day. We exchanged numbers and said our goodbyes. I went to the game (Texas won, obviously) and I texted Grant afterwards to thank him. We would randomly text over the next year until I saw him again in the summer of 2014. This time, it was in Anaheim where they were playing the Rangers again. I didn’t let him know I was in town, but after the game I posted a photo with my girlfriends on Instagram wearing a Rangers shirt. Ten minutes later I got a text from him that said “Do not ever wear that shirt in my stadium again.” I died laughing and went on to a bar in Newport Beach with my friends. With no plans to meet up whatsoever, in walks Grant to the exact same bar. We spent the night hanging out and bar hopping around Newport. Over the next 3 years we would occasionally text, but never saw each other. In November of 2017, Grant began texting me again but this time it was nearly everyday. After about a month of talking, he asked me to come out to California and I booked a trip. On January 27, 2018 we had our first date at Disneyland, and we were both hooked. I flew home the next day and we decided no matter what we would figure out a way to make the distance work. The following day, he booked a trip to Dallas. Almost two full years of long distance and a whole lot of adventures, Grant finally moved to Dallas and we couldn’t be more excited to start this next chapter of life together.
Misty and I got engaged on my 32nd birthday. It was the one day of the year I thought she would be least expecting me to get down on a knee. The day was like every other birthday for me, and involved going to dinner at Mastros with my brother and his family. We had a normal dinner (with Misty obviously getting a filet) until I had Gage, Gentry, and Grady (all my Godchildren,) give Misty a present. In the box was a bracelet with their initials, birthstones, and a note asking Misty if she would become their Godmother. Misty was of course shocked, and when she looked over at me, I was on one knee asking if she would be my bride. The only words Misty could come up with was telling me “But it’s your birthday.” After a few times of her saying this, I told her she need to say YES for us to officially be engaged. She finally listened to me, (first time for everything) and she said Yes, of course. After dinner we went to a local bar where I had a few of her best friends fly out for the occasion, to surprise her, and it worked! Misty started crying with her friends and for the rest of the weekend we spent time with all of our friends in Newport Beach, bar hopping and enjoying our engagement weekend to the fullest. It was by far the best weekend of my life, and the best birthday present I could have ever given myself.
