In February 2024, Mattie and Mirielle matched on Hinge and happened to be reading the same book (“Good Material” by Dolly Alderton). This was a very good thing because Mattie judges people on dating apps solely by what they are reading. Because Mattie has a vendetta against first dates, Mattie made Mirielle drive to Midvale for theirs. She also only planned an hour and 15 minutes for it, which Mirielle found very disappointing. After their date, Mirielle went home and told her roommate she may have gone on her last first date (she had not). Mattie went home and told her sister she wasn’t sure if she was actually queer, but if she was, Mirielle was the person she would want to date. The two made plans for a second date, which had to be rescheduled because Mattie’s neighborhood precinct chair held a caucus meeting so incorrectly it had to be redone. However, Mirielle made up for it by taking Mattie on a magical after-hours tour at the Springville Art Museum where she works. After a few months, Mirielle made very cute plans to ask Mattie to be her girlfriend. Mattie ruined these plans by rambling on for three minutes while trying to ask Mirielle if she wanted to be exclusive. The only downside to this otherwise very happy occurrence is that the number of books Mattie read the past few years is much lower than it would have had she not fallen in love.
