If you are reading this, chances are that you will be traveling from afar, and for the first time, to my native town in Mexico! My beloved Atoyac is a small town in the state of Jalisco. Atoyac, which means “place by the river” in Nahualt. It is well known for its leather works, which are shipped locally and internationally! It is a very friendly, welcoming, and peaceful town about an hour and fifteen minutes south of the Guadalajara International Airport. One of the biggest thoughts that come to mind when considering a trip to Mexico is its safety. Jalisco, known for being the birthplace of mariachi and tequila, is currently one of the safest states in Mexico. Flying in and out of the Guadalajara International Airport is simple, and out of 15+ airports I’ve stepped foot in, one of the easiest airports to maneuver. The quest isn’t complete solely by landing in Guadalajara, now is it? Of course not! So how do I make it to this so-called “Atoyac”? Easy. That part the family of the groom has covered. My uncle and a few family friends make airport trips to and from Atoyac. Lucky for us, they have a few large vans and even a bus! All we’d need is your flight details and party number. Which reminds me… FLIGHTS! These can be looked up with a simple “Flights Dallas to Guadalajara” Google search, but as a frequent flyer to Guadalajara, I would start by trying airlines Volaris and Viva Aerobus. These two are typically the most economical airlines that take you to Mexico. Prices range between $200 and $400 depending on dates and airlines. The best part of the trip is the short two-and-a-half-hour flight, if nonstop, and in the blink of an eye, you’ve landed.
