How we met...

in the high ropes course.

Time is a funny thing. After graduating from UGA, Miriam began working at Camp Highland, in Ellijay, GA, in 2011. A short time later, I arrived on the Highland campus helping lead the students of the student ministry at my church for a retreat weekend. It just so happened that while in the high ropes course I had to stop on the tree platform where Miriam was working. We struck up a casual conversation, one that we both look back on as the start of something truly special. Each year after that, we both enjoyed getting to catch up when I would bring students up to Camp for weekend retreats. I would always hope that Miriam would be working and she kept an eye out for when Briarlake Church was on the calendar. But time is a funny thing… Seven years went by of seeing each other once a year at Camp before the Lord really said it was time! I reached out to Miriam in January 2020 for a coffee date and the we began dating. After adventures hiking, picnicking, dancing and surviving the craziness of a global pandemic, we both knew God had the best timing for our lives. I asked Miriam to marry me on June 12, 2020 under the high ropes course at Camp Highland where we first met all those years ago. She said “Mmmhmm, yes!” It is fitting and special that we get to say our vows at Camp Highland as well. We couldn’t be more excited to see what other adventures the Lord has planned for our lives together in His perfect timing!

The Proposal

6.12.2020

Nathaniel had to get a COVID-19 test to come visit me at the end of Summer Staff Training at Camp Highland. We had the afternoon to hike and spend time together. He suggested hiking around the places he used to come with his students, when we first met. When we turned the corner to the high ropes course I realized there was a bench that he'd set up with flowers and special things... IT WAS HAPPENING!! My sweet friend Katie was there to take photos (I shot her proposal a year before), so that was a special detail. He read a few verses that have meant a lot to us this year about TRUST and the Lord's FAITHFULNESS. He got down on one knee and asked me to MARRY HIM! And I said, "Mmmhm, YES!"

Our Wedding

You mean so much to us and we are excited to head into the journey that is marriage with your support and love. Sadly, due to COVID-19, we are limited to a small gathering of immediate family and wedding party. We so wish you could be with us in person on that day, but we will be posting updates and photos on our wedding website so you can join in spirit! We love you and cannot wait to celebrate with you in the future, post-COVID!
