Peter had just moved back from living in California, and Mirella had just finished Graduate school, and they both decided to give online dating a try. After liking each others profiles on Hinge, (an online dating app), Mirella sent the first message, "Hi, Peter, how was your weekend?". The first message quickly turned into numerous text exchanges, until Peter finally asked Mirella on a date. After communicating via text for a month, they finally met at Maria's Mexican Restaurant in Rosemont, which has become their favorite date night spot. A few months prior to their first date, Mirella celebrated her Graduate School graduation at Maria's Mexican Restaurant, where Mirella wished to land her dream job and a boyfriend. Little did she know, that both would come true, and she would have her first date with her future husband there. The first date turned into many, and they are very excited to spend the rest of their lives together!
Peter had originally planned to propose at the Botanical Gardens, the weekend of Mirella's birthday in March, however; due to Covid-19, a mandated shutdown caused everything to close the week of the proposal. Peter quickly coordinated a new proposal idea for the day he had planned, but due to the lockdown beginning that same evening, it was quite difficult to get Mirella to leave the house. Peter convinced Mirella that they would take a drive to see different neighborhoods, and that Peter would cook dinner for Mirella's birthday that evening. While out on their drive, Peter convinced Mirella to get out of the car at one of the neighborhoods they were driving through. Mirella first not realizing where they were at, soon saw the gazebo that they frequently pass on their drive to Mirella's cousins' home. Mirella noticed Peter was getting emotional, and soon started to realize what was happening. Peter got down on one knee and asked Mirella to spend the rest of her life with him- she of course said, yes! It was the most special day and a weekend they both will never forget. They now call the gazebo, "Our Gazebo" whenever they drive passed it.
