Zach and I initially started talking through social media in January of 2019. We both attended Messiah College and graduated in 2018, but never knew each other during our time there. It's quite shocking because Messiah is a small school so you see the same people around all the time, plus we both did a victory lap. Crazy! We had mutual friends so we had always had each other on social media, but never interacted until I took a leap of faith and asked him about a recipe he had posted on his Instagram story. I was in a good place to put myself out there again so I figured I'd give it a shot. If it works out, great. If not, at least I could say that I tried. The rest is history.
We went on a hike at a place called White Rocks and went for ice cream after. Zach brought his dog to help break the ice and safe to say, it worked. During our ice cream portion of the date, I had opened up to him about my past and how badly I've been hurt. He could tell my walls were up and reassured me that he was going to show me how he plans on taking care of me instead of just saying it. It worked.
We had plans to go to this restaurant called The Sandbar on the beach in Ana Maria Island. I did not feel good the day Zach proposed and just wanted to stay home with no human interaction; but Zach's family was visiting from Pennsylvania and we were getting family photos taken, so I had to make myself presentable while having some suspicion. I was not going to get my hopes up until I saw him on one knee. While shielding my eyes from the sun, I hadn't noticed Zach and his dad exchanging the ring from one another so Zach could put it in his pocket. Before I knew it, Zach says to me, "Hey, you knew this was coming" and proceeds to get down on one knee. I tried to say, "Yes" but my voice was basically gone at that point from my sickness so I just started shaking my head uncontrollably. Everything happened in a blur. Best day of our lives!
