We swiped right, Yay a match! After a week of flirtatious messaging, it was time to meet in person. Xander picked out a cute little bistro in Snohomish; he had it all planned out, we would get dinner then do some antique shopping and go for a walk together. Dinner was delicious! We even got some un-solicited dating advice from the couple at the next table. However, Xander didn't realize that the shops would be closed by the time we got done eating. Because it was February, it was already getting cold and dark but we were enjoying each other enough to go for a walk anyway. We talked, laughed a lot, and had a great time together! Despite the frozen fingers and ears.
Xander wanted something serious a bit too quickly, having fallen head over heels in just a couple of months; Jessie wasn't quite so sure. She had just moved to a new city; and not knowing anyone, she was mostly looking for someone to do things with, at least in the beginning. It didn't take long for Xander's goofy sense of humor and sweet personality to make her change her tune. She finally agreed to make it official while they were texting before bed on April 1st, 2019. The next day they met up and Jessie decided that it shouldn't be done over text; but more importantly, she decided that April Fools day would not make a very good anniversary! Thus April 2nd became the official day that they started their relationship.
Xander had the ring and got her father's blessing but he wanted to make it special. Covid 19 and staying home all the time put a damper on his plans for a while; but finally the world seemed to be getting back to normal. Conveniently, it was also almost their anniversary, which he thought would be the perfect opportunity to have a special date and ask. Inconveniently, Jessie's sister's wedding was the day after their anniversary and she was asked to be the maid of honor, so their actual anniversary involved a quick good morning kiss then a, “See you tomorrow!” while Jessie went to do her maid of honor duties. Well, Xander decided that he wouldn't let that ruin his plans entirely, they would just celebrate their anniversary the next weekend instead. Jessie got on board with the delayed date for their anniversary and planned a bowling date for the two of them. Xander didn't think that was quite the romantic opportunity that he wanted, so he decided that he would re-create their first date to make it a little bit sweeter. He booked dinner at the same Bistro in Snohomish as their first date. He even made sure they had time to do some antique shopping; before the shops closed this time! They enjoyed their bowling games. Jessie even gave Xander his own bowling ball as an anniversary present (according to his claims, he may have been even more excited about that than their engagement, just kidding!). Then they had a great time antiquing and even picked up some hand-made ceramic mugs before dinner. The food was just as good as they remembered, especially the fondue they got as an appetizer. After dinner, they walked along the river where Xander got down on one knee and asked Jessie to marry him. She said yes and after some goofing around where Jessie put the ring on and Xander said "I'm supposed to do that" then promptly put the ring on his own hand as a joke before finally placing it where Jessie thought it belonged, they rushed off to tell their families the great news!
