Shelby & Bryan met back in February of 2016. Shelby had not yet graduated from DePaul University and was working at a local gym in Lakeview to keep busy outside of her college courses. The gym had thousands of members, but Bryan was one of the regulars. One evening Bryan made plans with a couple of the front desk staff to go to trivia night at Kincades, a small bar not far from Lakeview. Shelby was a last minute addition and the two hit it off immediately. Although they both didn't do too well at trivia that night, they spent the evening eating some of their favorite food, talking about sports & spending time with close friends.

In October of 2019 Bryan and Shelby traveled to their ultimate buck list destination. They spent two days in Athens, Greece before hopping on a ferry to the island of Santorini, Greece. Towards the end of the trip, Bryan told Shelby he had found a photographer to take some photos of them during their stay. Little did Shelby know, Bryan had been in contact with the photographer eight weeks prior to the trip to set the stage. The photographer took them to a secluded area on a cliff with views of the Caldera, the city of Oia and the world famous Santorinian sunset. Here, as the sun was setting, Bryan proposed to Shelby. Pictures will never do that moment justice, but the photographer captured everything perfectly. Later that evening, once they arrived back at their hotel, Bryan had arranged for a private dinner on the deck overlooking the sea and the island of Santorini. A perfect ending to the most amazing trip!

Shelby & Bryan were both at the Stanford vs Notre Dame football game back in 2010 (6 years before they met), only sitting a couple sections apart. They both saved their game tickets & Jim Minick (Shelby's Uncle) was the honorary captain of the game. Bryan unknowingly saved a postcard that Shelby had written him back in 2014 (2 years before they met), while she was working at Fitness 19 as part of a member appreciation effort. The first time Shelby went over to his apartment she saw it hanging on his fridge and noticed it was her handwriting. The postcard is still hanging on their refrigerator today. Shelby unknowingly met one of Bryan's close friends back in 2015 (1 year before they met). Shelby later realized he knew Bryan when he also showed up to the first wedding they went to together. Shelby's birthday is the same date as Bryan's parents wedding anniversary. Bryan and Shelby's mom share the same birthday. Bryan & Shelby have traveled to 15 states and 10 international destinations through standby travel in the last 4 years.
