The Logistics of Love (or: How the Cats Won) The Bait and Switch It all started on Hinge. Jeff saw Min’s photos and thought, “She’s the one.” Min saw Jeff’s photos, spotted his cats, Peach and Daisy, and thought, “I need to meet those felines.” Jeff provided the profile, but the cats closed the deal. The "First" Date (The One That Didn't Happen) We were set for the Wednesday after Halloween. However, Jeff quickly learned two things about Min: she is incredibly family-oriented, and her Google Calendar is a suggestion, not a rule. A few hours before the date, Min realized she’d accidentally double-booked Jeff with her entire family. Naturally, the family won round one. The Actual First Date (The Shouting Match) The next day, the stars finally aligned. Jeff arrived 15 minutes early to sweat nervously; Min, as a good Latina, arrived 10 minutes late to keep him on his toes. We started at a bar in K-town that was apparently auditioning to be a literal jet engine test site. We spent an hour screaming our life stories at each other over the bass. Through the hearing loss, we discovered we had both been in China at the exact same time a few months prior, meaning we traveled halfway across the world to ignore each other, only to meet five minutes from home. We eventually pivoted to a restaurant for some "artisanal" (read: suspiciously expensive) soup and kimchi dumplings, where we confirmed that we actually liked the sound of each other’s voices when they weren't at a 110-decibel screech. The Week of Destiny We were so intrigued that we crammed three dates into the first seven days. The highlights included: The Food: A series of ambitious culinary adventures. The Rizz: Jeff attempting to woo Min with Spanish (results varied). The Art: A pottery class where we both discovered that we have zero future in the ceramics industry (although that didn't stop us from trying again a year later). By the time the third date rolled around, we realized we weren't just a match on an app, we were a match in real life. Peach and Daisy have since given their official seal of approval.
