In early 2020, Wesley was teaching at a university in Wuhan, China when the Covid-19 pandemic struck the city. As a consequence, Wesley was forced to live in the US and teach online for two years. Desperate to return to Asia, but still unable to return to China, Wesley decided to live and work in Seoul, South Korea for a year. In anticipation of his move to Korea, he registered for an online website where he could begin to learn the Korean language and connect with locals in Seoul. One of the people he met on this website was his future wife, Minah. After conversing online for several weeks, they decided to meet in person at Hyewa subway station, exit 4 in Seoul. On their first date, they dressed in Hanbok and visited a traditional Korean palace. They ate Wesley’s first Korean barbecue together, and sat together on the rooftop of a café as they watched a romantic sunset. Unintentionally, it just so happens that their first date was on August 23rd 2022, which has been an important wedding date in Wesley’s family for generations. They officially started dating on September 17th 2022. The rest, as they say, is history!
