Answer

Questions applicable for the Wedding in the UK are in this section

Question

Why is the wedding in Scotland?

Answer

For those who may not know, Milly was born in England, and her extended family lives in the United Kingdom! We will be having a smaller ceremony across the pond and a Happily Ever After Party to celebrate with all our friends and family in the US! We’d love to see you if we can, just let us know in the RSVP :)

Question

Do I need a Visa for the UK?

Answer

Yes, you must apply for either an electronic travel authorisation (ETA recommended) or a Standard Visitor visa. ETA - https://www.gov.uk/eta Standard Visitor - https://www.gov.uk/standard-visitor

Question

When should I book my flight?

Answer

Check out the Travel page for tips on tracking a good flight price!

Question

What is the attire?

Answer

It will be cold! Definitely prepare for it to be chilly and possibly raining. The venue is indoors, but the attire is Formal / Moody Castle Vibes - Long dresses, no shorts or jeans, kilts encouraged!

Question

Should I get a rental car in the UK?

Answer

This totally depends on how you prefer to travel while you are there! Packing light and using public transportation is a great way to explore. We recommend using the app "Trainline" to get the best public transit options from places (ex: London to Edinburgh). If you do plan to rent a car, make sure you choose "automatic" rather than "manual" if you do not know how to drive stick. There are also taxis and Uber available. Edinburgh is not a very car-friendly city so we suggest using public transit there. We will be staying nearer to Glasgow leading up to the wedding, so message us if you want to know more about that! Reminder for US people: In the UK, they drive on the left-hand side of the road!!

Question

Will any transport be provided?

Answer

We will provide transport from The Hydro Hotel to the wedding venue the day of the wedding! Let us know where you are staying in the RSVP. We will provide telephone numbers of taxis for rides after the wedding.

Question

How do I get from Edinburgh to Peebles or vise versa?

Answer

#1 recommendation for getting from Peebles -> Edinburgh Sunday the 29th is a pre-booked taxi. The venue recommends BARC Travel: https://barctravel.uk/ There is a Bus (pops up when you Google map it), if you go to the Border Buses website or download the app you can plan your trip (https://www.bordersbuses.co.uk/plan-a-journey). This is less reliable on Sundays. You can use the Bolt app (like Uber). You can use the Trainline App mentioned on the travel page to checks trains (this may include some taxis to train stations). You can consider renting a car, or chat with people at the wedding who also might have one traveling the same way! *If you need to park a car at the venue please contact us for directions for the upper lot* We will also provide numbers at the wedding for taxi services.

Question

What currency should I bring to the UK?

Answer

You can call your bank to receive British Pounds before the trip. However, most places take card these days, just check with your bank if they charge for international fees or not. You can also go to an ATM while abroad but withdrawal fees will most likely apply. We’ve had the best of luck with Mastercards, and learned the hard way most places do NOT take Discover or Amex. Reminder: Let your bank know you are traveling so they don’t accidentally block your card!

Question

Will my US phone work in the UK?

Answer

Call your cell provider to check rates for using your phone internationally. Or pull a Milly and rely on screenshotting maps or waiting for public wifi to mooch off of :) WhatsApp is also very popular to use in the UK and it keeps your same phone number. Reminder: The UK & US use different electronic outlets! Buy an adapter before your trip.

Question

*Questions for the US Party*

Answer

Questions applicable to the Happily Ever After Party in the US are in this section

Question

What kind of clothing should I bring?

Answer

Could be hot or could be raining! Feel free to pack some Blossom Time themed clothing like short sleeve button downs and flowy dresses.

Question

What will this event entail?

Answer

We will be hosting a reception party at the house in Chagrin! Music, light food, cake, and good times provided. Check out https://www.cvjc.org/blossom-time for other fun weekend events.

Question

Should I get a rental car?

Answer

Depends where you are staying! If you find an Airbnb in downtown Chagrin you might be fine with just an Uber from/to the airport. Any where else you probably need a car, as many of you know most of the US is very car dependent 🚗

Question

Do I need a visa for UK->US?

Answer

Nope! UK citizens are welcome to the US for tourism for up to 90 days. Check your government websites to confirm.
