Lauren and Josh met in veterinary school. After Lauren's friends Kat and Brittney drunkenly invited the 'quiet guy that reads long books' to a game night, he became a part of their little vet school family. Lauren and Josh initially bonded over caring for kittens for the K-State orphan kitten team. They spent most evenings studying for exams and quizzing each other. After being friends for two years, and a lot of patience on Josh's part, Lauren asked Josh to be her boyfriend in November of 2020.

Josh got a ring over a year before the proposal, knowing that he would eventually find the perfect moment to pop the question. Although Josh's grand plan of a proposal in the sky in a hot air balloon was thwarted, he decided he could not wait any longer for that 'perfect' moment to arrive. Josh spent time working on their scrap book, unknown to Lauren. On their second anniversary, Josh presented Lauren with the scrap book filled with happy memories they have shared and loving words. In their living room, in pajamas, surrounded by all of their cats, Josh got down on one knee and asked Lauren the easiest question she's ever had to answer.
