How it all started, from the groom’s perspective

Many moons ago, Lindsey and I were introduced at work....

My first thought was, Well Chevron does have good looking young women that work here! And this one is tall, beautiful and plays volleyball! But dang, she is so out of my league.. Several months later I carefully shot my shot and got a few dates! One of those was as her date to her sister’s wedding. I met her family and thought, wow, this girl is beautiful, smart, dedicated, AND comes from an amazing family. About a month later, we realized dating would be tough with both of us moving so much for work. Fast forward 3 years, we both wound up back in Northern California and started talking again, connecting over random things like stray huskies and gingerbread houses and eventually I asked her for her opinion about my kitchen remodel. One weekend, I took another shot and asked if she wanted to come and pick out counters with me (I know, romantic right?). She responds, “That sounds fun, when?” I responded with, “How about this afternoon?” She responds, “Sure, let’s do it!” I wasn’t sure how to feel... I hadn’t seen or talked to her much in 3 years, but when I first saw her again I remembered exactly how I felt several years before. It turned out all of the counter and tile places were closed so we ended up at IKEA. We walked around the IKEA maze catching up and talking like no time had passed at all. We bought soft serve ice cream and joked about keeping Lindsey’s hair from getting stuck in it. Only moments later, we were walking back to the car when a gust of wind blew her hair directly into her ice cream! The laughter we shared over the hairy ice cream after such a fun afternoon catching up was the moment I knew we had something special between us and I couldn’t wait to spend more time together. After that night, we started talking everyday and seeing eachother every weekend, falling deeper in love with every text and weekend trip. I proposed in October at Lindsey’s favorite spot, the family cabin in Vermont by the lakeside with a backdrop of colorful fall leaves.
