There are countless hiking trails throughout the Bitterroot Mountains, many within easy access from Hamilton/Corvallis. A few of the more popular hikes are Blodgett Canyon Trail and Blodgett Overlook Trail as well as the Lake Como Loop Trail. The Route of the Hiawatha mountain bike or hike trail is 15 miles long with 10 train tunnels and 7 sky-high trestles. The best part is.... it's all downhill with shuttle buses available to transport you and your bike back to the top. This family friendly trail is easily enjoyed by a wide variety of people from young children to super seniors.
Follow the Lewis and Clark Trail and visit Traveler's Rest State Park in Lolo; see the Daly Mansion, home of the Copper King, Marcus Daly, founder of Hamilton; stop at St. Mary's Mission in Stevensville, considered the birthplace of Montana; visit Big Hole Battlefield in Wisdom, the site of an 1877 early dawn raid by US military troops pursuing Nez Perce Indians who were fleeing to Canada to avoid confinement in reservations.
