Leah's Version.... So there we were, baked in the 120 degree heat of Kuwait, blown by sand storms that turned the sky red and doused by the most terrential rains I have ever seen. What possible good could come from a place like this? So here's the story. We both worked in the post office at our "other job" while on deployment. I instantly fell for his good looks but had no idea of his first name. After double checking his rank (big army faux pas to date below your rank) some friends offered to wait (hide) with me outside the post office so I might "bump into him." He took so long leaving the building that we gave up. After not seeing him in the mailroom for days, we did some detective work to find out his first name. That alllowed me to message him but by this time he was back in Wisconsin on leave. When Alex returned to Kuwait we hadn't reconnected until our softball teams were playing each other. He eventually asked me out to the finest restaurant on base, Chili's, and still to this day teases me for ordering the most expensive thing on the menu. We both knew this was real when Alex left all that he loves in Wisconsin to be together in Pittsburgh. Alex's Version.... So I get a DM when I was on leave in Wisconsin from this girl in the mailroom. I thought, "Well, ok, we'll see where this goes." When I returned to Kuwait we started talking and had our now infamous first date. Just when we really got to know each other I was redeployed to Fort Hood. She gave me a gift and a card and told me not to open them until I was on the plane. Along with a Packers shirt she wrote the most heartfelt note. I knew I was going to miss her. When she returned home we talked and visited constantly. I'll never forget her tearful eyes as she looked back at me entering the airport for Pittsburgh. I knew this was much more than a deployment girlfriend. Moving to Pittsburgh felt like the right thing to do...as Billy Joel wrote, "Wherever we're together, that's my home."
