Travel to Mexico from the US does not require a negative COVID test; however, a negative COVID test is required within 1 day of your departing flight to re-enter the US (regardless of vaccination status). If you recently recovered from COVID-19, you may instead travel with documentation of recovery from COVID-19 (i.e., your positive COVID-19 viral test result on a sample taken no more than 90 days before the flight’s departure from a foreign country and a letter from a licensed healthcare provider or a public health official stating that you were cleared to travel). We will be offering testing at Nest on Saturday, January 29th from 10am-12pm. The cost of the test is $50 and must be paid in cash. There are also many testing sites in Tulum where you can walk up to and get tested. Many of the hotels also offer testing.
A valid passport is required to travel to Tulum, Mexico. Please keep in mind it can take up to 3 months to receive your passport. If your passport is expiring within 6 months of the wedding, you will need to have it renewed in order to leave the country.
January is one of Tulum's coolest months, with temperatures ranging from 70 to 85 degrees. Hurricane season ends in November so there is only a slight chance of rain.
The dress code for the wedding will be beach cocktail. Dressy but nothing too formal. Think flowy and breathable fabrics.
Tulum is a small beach town and most everything is within walking or biking distance. Many hotels on the beach offer beach cruiser bikes to their guests for free. Taxis are another great, super cheap option. If you don’t feel like walking or you’re staying at a hotel further from wedding activities, you can take a taxi to and from destinations for approximately 80 - 120 pesos. Always ask the price and negotiate the cost before entering the taxi. Taxis are easy to flag down or your hotel concierge will call them for you.
While most hotels, restaurants, etc. take major credit cards such as Visa and MasterCard, please be aware that small local shops and taxis may be cash (or peso) only. It is a good idea to come with some pesos and exchanging in the US would be your best option. There are ATMs at the airport and around town that you can use to exchange as well; however, the rates will not be ideal. Please keep in mind that an international transaction fee of ~3% is charged on most credit cards.
