I had just moved to my new apartment in Austin and was only about a month into living there. It was a very hot texas summer friday afternoon and I decided to hit up my apartment pool for a little tan sesh. I was laying out on a pool chair minding my own business when I was saw this tall, dark, handsome (HOTTTIEEE) walking towards the pool. I had sunglasses on but I was staring hard just trying not to be obvious. He just so happened to pick the cabana right next to my chair with his friends. I needed to cool off so I got in the pool at the edge next to their cabana and his friend offered me a beer which I politely declined as I wanted someone else to offer. Then Matt gets in the pool directly across from me but still doesn't say anything, so I decide to make a move and ask if he lives at the apartment complex. Come to find out one of his friends does and he actually lives right down the street. We get to talking and find out that he lived in San Marcos, my hometown, and we shared an affinity for pool parties. We had so much in common and felt like we had known each other our whole lives. He did eventually offer me a drink and we ending up talking and hanging out the rest of the day before we realized it was dark out and we were the only ones left at the pool. I took a leap and decided to introduce him to my dogs so they could judge him, and they loved him! I knew he was going to be someone very special to me. The next day he bought me breakfast tacos and invited me to watch a soccer game, which I later found out was something very special to him. It took a few months of me pursuing him and letting him know exactly what I wanted, but I finally convinced him to be my boyfriend!
We knew we wanted to get married and I knew Matt was planning something super special for the proposal. However, amid the craziness of this COVID-19 pandemic and having so many uncertainties about when we would be able to go anywhere I let him know that I didn't need anything special or big and it would be so nice to have some goods news during this time. I was getting very antsy of being home so I told him I wanted to get dressed up and have a fancy date night at home. He was totally down and thought he would have a part in helping me cook and everything, but he was an essential worker and still going in everyday so I took it upon myself to turn our dining room into a fancy restaurant. He got home from work and I made him cover his eyes and go to the room where his clothes were all laid out with a note inviting him to dinner. I had created a cute backdrop with sheets and christmas light and set up the table with wine, bread, candles and all the accoutrements of a fancy dinner. I put on my fancy dress and brought him out and he was very surprised! I thought we were just creating a nice night out but I had no idea what he was going to do next. We were slow dancing around the living room and he said he'd be right back. I thought he was just going to the bathroom so I sat down to look through my phone. He came out and took my phone out of my hands and got down on one knee. I couldn't tell you what he said cause I blacked out from excitement and there were lots of tears. I finally heard will you marry me and I said YES!! It was the most perfect moment of my life. He said he didn't know he was going to do it then but the moment felt so right. And it was indeed. We will never forget all the craziness going on in the world at the time but we will always have our little moment of joy amidst all of it.
