The first time I saw Miles, he was standing at the front door of the Stanford House (otherwise known as SJ's bedroom). I awkwardly let him in and led him to the kitchen not thinking of anything other than how long this lunch would take since I had about a million papers left to grade that day. Still, I couldn't help noticing the Austin College Soccer shirt he was wearing. What are the chances that in the middle of Louisiana, this boy from Texas who ALSO taught math through TFA would have played soccer at my best friend's college in Sherman, TX?
The second time Miles and I met was at my neighbor's (Charles and Wendy's) Annual Advent Wine Party. Having just finished our first semester teaching - like all good teachers - my roommates and I were playing King's Cup with red wine! After stumbling my way over to Charles and Wendy's, I once again ran into Miles. We started talking about our common interests and MOST IMPORTANTLY how we were wearing the same watch! By the end of the night I was yelling at SJ in French that this guy was incredible! He loved soccer, and was running a marathon, and best of all, he was also from Texas! The rest of the night is a little hazy, but all I know is I couldn't take my eyes off of him.
