Our Story

12 Years in the Making

Yep, that's right. Twelve years in the making! And here we are! Welcome to "Our Story,” as told by the groom. Summer 2007: I just finished my freshman year in college at LSU and was hired to work as a high school summer camp counselor at Pine Cove Camps in Tyler, TX. Before arriving to Pine Cove, I had never heard of the camp or the city it was located in but I was pumped to be there for most of the summer. I had been a counselor at summer camp before, but this place was like camp on steroids. That summer, we had a group of guys and a group of girls who helped us work around camp, the Young Guns and the Baby Ruths. Five guys and five girls. They had all just graduated from high school and were preparing to head off to college. They were there all summer to be discipled before beginning the next chapter of their lives at university, so they didn't have any campers. They just worked around the camp with the staff. And that is when I met Elizabeth! I remember meeting her pretty quickly after arriving at camp and thinking "Oh my goodness, this girl is absolutely gorgeous!" Like stop you in your tracks type gorgeous. We weren't supposed to interact much with the Baby Ruths throughout the summer so we didn't get to know each all that well but I was CRUSHING HARD! I wouldn't have known what to say to her anyways because I had no clue how to talk to girls back then. So we went through the summer, occasionally exchanging pleasantries, and before I knew it the summer was over. I headed back to Baton Rouge and she headed up to Fayetteville. We kept in touch sporadically, but I always thought about her and considered her the "one that got away.” Fast Forward... Spring 2019: Elizabeth is no longer the "one that got away!” We reconnected in the Spring and from that point on our relationship took off like a rocket! Still the same beautiful, sweet girl I remembered from so many years ago and as our relationship grew so did our love for one another. She is now "here to stay.”
