The first time I met Ella was a complete disaster. Apparently she had the biggest crush on me in 6th grade and asked her best friend for my screen name. We were IM'ing for a while (I had no idea who she was) before we eventually decided to meet in person. Our first "date" was going on a bike ride, and we agreed to meet at the nearby school. Turns out we were thinking of different schools - not too far apart, but this was a big issue as we didn't have cell phones. We eventually both went home and finally reconnected online and then met up at the right place. I thought she was the prettiest girl I had ever seen. Unfortunately, just minutes into our ride, the chain on my bike broke. Worse yet, the broken chain jammed the wheel so I ended up having to carry my bike home with Ella riding casually ahead of me. I was so embarrassed but I guess it didn't phase her since 13 years later she said "Yes."
The plan was to finish my presentation for my master's degree, meet Mike for dinner, and go to a friend's birthday celebration. Mike met me after work outside of where my class was held and walked with me to our dinner at Le Pif. Through out dinner he kept checking is phone, which was odd. His excuse was he and his friends were joking about another friend. After dinner we grabbed dessert and he suggest we take a walk through Lincoln Center. While we were walking he kept looking around. I thought none of it because I told his best friend I didn't want to get proposed to at graduation. We made our way to the fountain and sat together on the ledge to take pictures. I didn't notice my sister and my cousins in front of us. Mike looked over at them and I finally knew what was happening. They were taking photos of us. Mike got down on one knee and asked "Will you marry me?" Also, there was no birthday celebration, it was all a scheme to get me to dress nice - it half worked.
