...Susie and Mike opened Tinder on their phones to see what the internet had in store for them. Susie had the GPS range for suitors set to a conservative 2 mile range. Mike, however, set his to 20. Some would call it desperate. Mike would call it ambitious. As luck would have it, at some point Mike must have ventured within a few blocks of Susie - because despite the wild difference in their search radii, the two found themselves in each other’s results! Mike, an inexperienced visitor to Chicago’s sprawling neighborhoods, arrived an hour early for their first date at Hopleaf. He spent the extra time nervously pacing around the block and mentally rehearsing his opening line. Susie arrived, Mike totally nailed his greeting, and the two sat down for an evening of sour beers and steamed mussels. As the evening unfolded, Susie and Mike learned just how like-minded they were - and both silently took note of their auspicious chemistry. The date went very well - as did the next one, and the next one! Before long, the happy couple were dating exclusively - and the image of a happy future began to fade into view. In September 2015, they rented their first apartment together. It was then that Mike officially became a cat person, providing some paternal energy to the lives of Smithsonian and Pippin, Susie’s beloved felines. It wasn’t long before Mike realized it was time to ask Susie to live happily ever after with him. On October 2nd, with the sun setting on the final day of their 2016 apple picking pilgrimage in Fennville, MI, Susie and Mike found themselves at one of their favorite spots - a small wedge of land on the shores of Hutchins Lake. There, Mike tricked Susie into opening a fake geocache. Instead of the expected list of fellow adventures’ names, the paper log inside the geocache container had a simple message: “Susie, there’s something Mike needs to ask you…” She said "YES!"
