Pozzuoli
Pozzuoli is a colorful and delightful town near the city of Naples, in the volcanic area of Campi Flegrei. A large terrace overlooking the sea and the nearby islands of Ischia and Procida, famous fo being the largest port in the Tyrrhenian Sea during the Roman Empire, for important trade exchanges with the entire Mediterranean. The city center of Pozzuoli could be defined as a real seaside village. Rows of colorful houses seem drawn around the harbor. Pedestrian streets of shops lead to the heart of the city: Piazza della Repubblica. A real living room where young and old meet to spend time outdoors. Cafes, pizzerias, bars and much more embrace this large rectangle that is the square.
Lungomare Pertini
The Pozzuoli "boardwalk" is one of the most popular places in the city, both day and night. Very close to the sea, it is the perfect destination for the people who wants to sunbathing on its rocky beaches in summer. But it is also the place for the Phlegraean nightlife: here there are pubs, restaurants, pizzerias and trendy clubs.
Macellum - Temple os Serapis
The Macellum of Pozzuoli, called Temple of Serapis, is considered the city's symbol. The "temple" was actually a marketplace. Its name derives from the misinterpretation of its function after a statue of the god Serapis was found in 1750 at this location. The Macellum includes three majestic columns in Cipollino marble, which show erosion from marine Lithophaga molluscs when, at an earlier time, the ground level was much lower due to Bradyseism, and sea-water could flow in
Rione Terra
The first settlement of Puteoli, originally Dicearkia in Greek. It is a multi-layered city with several Roman buildings; the most important one is the Temple of Augustus (today the Pozzuoli's Dom).
Anfiteatro Flavio Neroniano
It is the third largest Italian amphitheater after the Colosseum and the Capuan Amphitheater. Here, among other things, the violent gladiator fights took place, which gathered and fascinated more than 40,000 spectators during the shows.
