The summer of 2007 was coming to an end and school was right around the corner. Nina had some friends over where she met Mike for the first time. They barely talked the first time they met but Mike will always remember meeting Paul with his intimidating ‘this is my daughter, don't mess with her’ look. A few short weeks later they met again in class during their Junior year. Mike and Nina would write on folders and pass them back and forth during every Personal Finance class. To this day, they still have these folders! They shared their first kiss to “Everything” by Michael Bublé, attended two proms, and spent their last two years of high school together. Mike and Nina had the challenge of a long-distance relationship through college. Nina moved 3 ½ hours east to attend The University of Findlay in OH. Mike moved 17 hours west to attend The University of Colorado in Boulder, CO. During this four-year journey, each of them traveled to OH and CO to visit. Long distance presented major challenges and there came a time, a couple times, that Mike and Nina needed to hit the pause button. They tried life without each other but it was much harder than it sounded. After Nina's graduation, she started her career by moving further east to Cape Cod and Plymouth, MA. A year and a half goes by before Mike made the commitment to move to MA. After 5 years of long distance, Mike and Nina were finally together. In 2015, they had the opportunity to head back to the mountains in Denver, CO. Mike was beyond happy to be back in this beautiful state and Nina found her true happiness on hikes through the mountain landscape. They have met some incredible people while living in MA and CO and cherish those relationships and memories. In 2017, Mike and Nina were both offered incredible jobs back home in IN. Since then, they have been able to spend time with horses and their cat, buy a house, and add a puppy to the family. They are happy to once again be surrounded by the people they love.
Last August, Mike and Nina celebrated their 10th anniversary and deiced to take their first vacation alone together in September across the pond. The first part of the trip was full of museums, international markets and more than their fill of food, wine, and beer through the streets of London. Nina's favorite part was the rich history and melting pot of people. Mike of course was all about being immersed in the culture at any local pub he could find. The second part of their trip was in the romantic city of Paris, France. After four days of running around in London, Mike and Nina took their first day in Paris to relax. They headed to the Eiffel Tower for a picnic and along the way, stopped at local vendors for fresh cheese, fruit, baguettes wine and champagne. Mike picked a nice quiet spot in the park with a perfect view of the tower. They enjoyed their romantic lunch and took little nap. After two bottles of wine, Nina needed to use the ladies room but Mike insisted she stay and wait. He soon slipped out a ring box he stowed away in the camera bag and turned towards Nina on their picnic blanket. Nina, bursting with excitement said to Mike, “Are you going to ask me to marry you?” The most nervous Mike has ever been, smiled and said, “Yes”. He slipped the ring on her finger before she could even respond to his question asking for her hand in marriage. Relieved she said yes and happy he finally asked, Nina and Mike shared a long kiss under the sun on their perfectly romantic picnic. They soon rushed to a restroom for Nina followed by more Champagne during the sunset at the top of the Eiffel tower. Mike and Nina saved up for this special trip as a true testament of their love for each other. Paris will forever be the place they celebrated a decade of love for one another as well as the moment in which they declared to forever be each other's always. Nina and Mike plan to revisit their picnic proposal every ten years for the rest of their happily ever after.
