How We First Met

Mel’s Side

In 2007, my friend had invited me and my then boyfriend to a party at her house since her boyfriend and my then boyfriend were friends. A few guys had walked into the party and I remembered seeing a guy with a tattoo on his arm whom I remember thinking was cute. After my relationship ended which was over a year after the party, I asked my friend who the guy at the party was and had told me there were 2 guys who had tattoos in tank tops. At that time, MySpace was in and she showed me Mike’s picture and I knew that was him so I decided to request him as a friend. However, my friend told me he had a girlfriend. Next thing I knew he commented me on MySpace saying thanks for the add and didn’t think he would even know who I was. From there we started commenting each other and remembered each other from the party and became friends. Mike became my friend that I would talk to when I needed to vent or cry during my ups and downs. I never did tell him I thought he was cute because we were always in the friend zone since he had a long time girlfriend and I also had other relationships. We still kept in touch when I moved to Vegas but had lost touch a little after that. As you all know, I was previously engaged which did not end well. We rekindled our friendship. Surprisingly, Mike at that time was also going through a rough patch in his life. I guess the saying things happen for a reason is really true. After 9 years of being friends, one day Mike tells me he needs to tell me something that he’s kept in for a very long time because the time was never right for both of us. He also knew at this time, it wasn’t a good time because of what I was going through but felt he needed to let me know before he lost his chance again. He told me he liked me and felt attraction towards me from the first time he laid his eyes on me at the party 😲. Then from there we remained friends until we both decided we were both ready to become more than friends. And here we are now.

When I First Saw Her

Mike’s Side

In 2007, I went to a friends party and I noticed this cute girl with a guy who I thought was her brother but I thought it was weird because they were always so close to each other. I would catch myself taking glances at her while talking to my friends and there was a point where I saw her look back at me and I quickly turned away and pretended I was part of the conversation in front of me. It wasn’t until later I realized they were in a relationship. It was one of those ohh well moments but I still thought she was cute. A long time passed and my friend who hosted the party asked if I remembered a girl from the party and of course I remembered her but I told my friend no and pretended I didn’t. It wasn’t long after that, I received a friend request on MySpace from Mel, I accepted and thanked her for adding me. We would leave messages to each other and then eventually met for dinner once at Zippys. We continued being friends; however, our love lives would keep us from talking to each other for long periods of time and even distanced us when she moved to Vegas. Somehow we would always reconnect via social media, or her asking an old friend what my number was. At one point, I talked to her while she was living in Vegas when she was going through a rough time which was when I started to have feelings for her and wanted to send her flowers to cheer her up and tell her how I felt. But she shut me down when I asked for her address. Honestly, she couldn’t admit that she she said “No” because she thought I was gonna stalk her pfft 🙄. Now, let’s fast forward about 8 years. Mel contacts me out of the blue and I find out that she’s been back on the island since 2012 which shocked me and we rekindled our friendship. What surprised me the most was that we were both currently single at this time. After some time had passed I decided this would be my only chance to tell her how I felt. After many dates and a proposal 2 years after we rekindled our friendship here we are today.
