How We Met

First comes school, then comes marriage. At least for one of us.

We met at BYU-Idaho. At BYU-Idaho we are set up into Family Home Evening groups and throughout the semester we do various activities with our groups just to get to know each other and have fun. Throughout the semester we had done several activities as a group week in and week out. Madelyn and I had talked a few times but it never went anywhere because I knew she was graduating and I didn't think shed be interested in me because I have two years left in school. I was wrong! The first time I asked her on what I thought was a date was so nerve racking for me. But, I figured I didn't have anything to lose. I asked her to go see a movie with me and a few other people at school and she said yes. Come to find out later, she had no idea that I thought of it as me asking her on a date. After the movie, we went our separate ways. One of her friends luckily told her, "Hey, I think Mike likes you." Thank goodness for her. In the subsequent weeks, we went on several dates and got to know each other and found that we got along great and had a lot of similar life goals and interests. I was still hesitant because I didn't know if she would just leave at the end of the semester and I would never see her again. After the fifth date, we had our first kiss. We continued to go out and spend quality time together to get to know each other more, but sure enough, the semester soon came to an end. A couple nights before she was scheduled to move home to San Diego, I asked her if she would want to stay in Rexburg to pursue our relationship. The night was full of discussions about where we were at as a couple and where we wanted to be. Sure enough we both wanted to continue to see each other. Here we are now and we could not be more excited about our future! We are so grateful for the support of family and friends throughout our relationship and welcome any and all that want to share our special day with us.

Proposal

Can't help loving you.

When you know you're meant to spend eternity with someone, it's a pretty powerful feeling. Our timeline may have been quicker than the average, but our love for each other is stronger than we could imagine. On the day I decided to ask Madelyn to spend eternity with me, I could not have been more nervous. The night before I reached out to her cousin to help me set up for what will always be a magical day. I had traveled to San Diego to visit Madelyn and her family with the ring and I wasn't leaving until I had popped the question. That day, June 1st, we had planned to go on a hike with Madelyn's cousin and I knew this would be the perfect time to get down on one knee and ask for Madelyn's hand. We traveled to Sunset Cliffs, which is about an hour drive, and the entire drive all I did was rehearse what I was going to say. When we walked up to where we had planned to walk, her cousin had written "Marry Me?" out of rocks on a beautiful cliff side with a gorgeous view. After all the rehearsing, all I could say as I looked into Madelyn's eyes was "I love you so much, will you marry me?" Not very poetic, but she said YES! Madelyn is the love of my life and she blows me away every single day. I cannot wait to spend eternity with her by my side, supporting each other in all of our future endeavors together.
